  • Im going back tonight. 13 SEP 03

Wll like most of us my dream was to turn my slow 16.6 stock convertable into a 14 sec. car. I did some mods and got to a best of 16.1. I then decided to supercharge and had many fuel problems, resulting in a sorry best of 15.8. I then tightened the belt down on the charger and pulled a best of 15.6. A full second faster then stock but still very sorry for my mods. I then upgraded my fuel pump and was able to pull a 15.3. Not even a week later I went back under the same conditions and pulled a 15.1. One and a half seconds quicker than my best stock. Not bad but still far away from others with similar setups. I noticed my car was having extremely bad misfires and decided to change my plugs. They were completely black and missing in some places thanks to the 2 months that I ran the car lean. I also just replaced my altanator wich had bad bearings, costing me some hp. The car is now pulling much harder thanks to the sparkplugs and altanator. I thank there is a good chance that my dream may become a reality tonight at the track. PLEASE.......Wish me luck because I assure you I will need it. Ill post up results tonight.

cant go till tomorow. Hopefully this will be the one. I even went and got a brnd new gates belt and took my charger off painted it neon green and re prepped my pully. Hey, its been over a month since I touched the thing. Oh Ill post pics of all the painting to my engine and powerdyne soon.Btw Im still getting 8 pounds of boost. I just replaced the belt cas I heard gates was better then dayco. It's also 20$ cheaper.

Off Topic- I heard just the opposite. I heard that Dayco was better than Gates. I've used 3 Gates so far. I've been thinking about Dayco and I finally got the part number for it.

Someone told me that when it comes to load like SC. Dayco would grip better and run cooler. My Gates belt tends to crack on the surface with less than 10thousands miles on it. It contracts alot too when it is hot.

But you know this is great. Now that you have Gates maybe I could hear some feedback as to which one better from you. Please Post your conclusion on this.

                Thanks

Oh oh you got me scared now. Maybe thats why the dayco is 20$ more expensive? I will post my experience on the forced induction board after a month. Ill post tomorrow with my track times.

More like my nightmare came true.....WTF. I swear man I never get a break. Ok I went a few weeks ago and stayed in the 15.1-15.5 range all night. My last 3 runs went like this. 15.3-15.2-15.1. Then they closed the track right as I was finally learning to launch. So I change my plugs, altanator , lighten the car up 50 pounds by removing some crap and Know that I have better knowledge of launching the car than ever before. My first one is a 15.6 with a 2.5 ft 60. Defiently not good but atleast that let me know that everything was runnin right. Then every run Idid after that was between a 15.9 and 16.3. Thats what I ran NA??!!! My boost guage read 7-9 psi all night. WTF ? How could I go from running low 15's to low 16's, when I spent so much money to get the car ready for last night? My fuel pressure was also reading 80-100 so no problem there. Im really stumped on this one. I think that Im gonna lay off on the track for a while till I get a mechanic to look at my car really good ad then go have it dyno tuned. Im sure its possible that I just got a loose hose somewhere, but Im seriosly to pissed of to even look at it right now. Well back to the roller coaster fase I guess. BTW... The problem has never been with the powerdyne, there's somthing wrong with my car.

No, unfortunately heat, humidity, and bad track conditions caused me to spin sideways to a best of 15.9. I couldn't pull any better than a 2.3 '60 all night. The track prep just sucked that night IMO, plus the weather just wasn't right to trap decently. You might have better luck being in New Jersey though. Good luck.

Friday noon was triple digit in Cali. How's the weather in your area when you ran? The weather is definately a factor.

What don't you describe to us how you launched your car.

Don't be disappointed, keep at it.

Guys... Id like to try and find some logical explanation for this other then some kind of engine failure somewere, but the bottom line is that there is no way that a car that stayed between 16.1 and 16.3 on every track run NA, would pull 15.9-16.3 with a solid 8 pounds of boost. When I pulled that 15.1 a month ago, everything was right. I went from a 16.1 to a 15.1. One full second. That was on a 2.2 ft 60. Imagine if I had my 16 inch rims on that I ran the NA 16.1 on instead of the 18's I now race with. That 2.2 could easily be a 2.1 and that 15.1 could easily have been a 14.9. That would have netted me a 1.2 second quicker et. So you see I was getting the power from the powerdyne. Just that I gotta try and find what happened between now and then. I dont have a cat Shirl. I replaced it with a straight pipe. The weather was 75 degress. I launch at 2k. My 60ft's were only 2.4 the whole night at best. I swear it feels like I was runnin NA all night.I just really fell that even if it was 120 degrees and I had a 2.6 60ft theres NO WAY THAT A SUPERCHARGED CAMARO IS SOWER THAN A STOCK ONE unless somthing got hooked up wrong when I put everything back together or theres somthing wrond with engine it's self. The only thing I can think of that has changed on the engine was that I made the spark plugs two heat ranges cooler instead of one and that I gapped them ay .60 instead of whatever they were. Ihad to have hooked the charger up correctly in order to be seeing 8 psi on my boost guage. Well Ill look at the engine for simple stuff tomorrow and post up.

My NGK plugs are gapped .035 for cold range. Ideal for SC, turbos and N2O. The .60 gapped is too much in my opinion.

I don't know if this is the parasite. But ask your mechanic if this is correct. I personally don't think it is. But then again I've been wrong lot of times.
