• Free Software - See how weather / altitude affect ET/MPH

Found this little freebee while cruising. Engine Program
It's about 3.5 meg big for your modem people...
After installing, try using the Atlitude correction and Weather correction to see how temp/altitude can change your known ET. Has alot of other handy calcs on it also (Just remember that you have to hit the "calculate" button after entering things for it to do anything) Be interesting to see how accurate it is...

Enjoy - Ron

I'd expect the HP / ET "dream wheel" calcs to be off, but were the Altitude / Weather corrections very close?

What specifically was inaccurate?

Eh I found out it'd probably be a waste of time to make up for elevation...the track I ran at is only about 155ft. above sea level lol

NHRA publishes simple cards for elevation correction... I'd get one of those.

And you can find these corrections on their website and MANY other big name racing websites also!

I couldn't get the weather calculator to vary my et by more than .01 , seems inaccurate to me. The hp calculator was alright though, although nothing I haven't already seen.

Allright....Guess that's why I put "Wonder how accurate it is" in the post.

Just thought I'd throw it out because there's been a million people with the following post:

I live at the top of Mt. Slowcar (Elevation 35,000) and my car runs a 16.20 when it's 120 degrees. How come Frogman's car runs 15.30's at
Atlantis (-2000 Elavation) when it's 50 degrees?

If people understand how elevation and weather affect ET, maybe they'd realize some of their times are not that bad for the elevation or the 100 degree heat they're running in.

Since nobody can be bothered to put the actual LINK to the correction, here it is: Correction
Keep in mind this is specified for Comp, S/ST, S/G and S/C the slowest of which runs 10.90 ETs. The Stock/Super Stock table may be better (below the Comp table) but still probably not the greatest for a 14-17 second car. It also only shows altitudes for the NHRA corrected tracks which the lowest is 1900 ft.

Altitude is only one factor to match your performance to another identical car- If you want to know why your car could run 2-3 tenths quicker one time than an other (Other than mechanic or tire spin) understanding how much air temperature, barometer, and humidity car affect your ET will give you an advantage. Maybe you don't bracket race or need to predict ET, but knowing when it's hot, humid, and the baramoter is in the crapper your car is going to run 4 tenths slower than you believe it will might keep you out of the "Kills" section on a Friday night street race at the track.

Have fun -
Ron :D ;)
