Exactly how is the air/flow ratio measured on a wideband?? Experiences with this?? Getting tuned on a dyno within a week or two...

they use a different o2 sensor that is put into your exhaust pipe. It's a very accurate sensor, more acurate than the normal ones in your car.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

SO... if i wanted to put an A/F ratio guage in my car.. im better off buying 1 wideband o2 sensor, and adding it to my y-pipe or something?96 Camaro M5. As you said, Keith, it's suppose to be more accurate. I've noticed with autotap, the numbers fluctuate too much and it's difficult to get accurate readings. I have to keep freezing each frame during a run to read the millivolts. I was told that autotap's not as accurate because the readings are going through the PCM first. I guess wideband is the way to go afterall.

Shirl With dynoing on a widebad I was able to tune my A/F so it was 13.0 across the board while the car is being pulled on the dyno.....If you have tuning capabilities do it.Eric

autotap's readings aer as accurate as the sensors will alow, the PCM doesn't modify them at all.
At WOT your #'s should remain fairly constant. If you have a lot of fluxuation over +/- .2 then I'd look at fueling. It should be very steady and changes should be gradual.
One thing I bet your car does is lean out a little bit in third.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

As most of our cars would especially if there are Intake or fuel changes done. Thats were the wideband come into play...With me I use the MAFT and as I am going up in the RPM band on the dyno I just click more or less fuel...By the time I am done tuning I run 13.0 across the board....
Another benifit is when you have the wideband done and know where your tuning is you will alway know your base and WOT so that you can adjust for things like a cutout at the track where you might need to run another 2% richer at WOT....one click and when done at the end of the night just click the WOT back to where you started.Eric

if you richen it up using MAF T+ for a nice fuel mix in 3'rd, you'll be even richer in 1'st and 2'nd.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

so then how do they fix the leanness in just 3rd gear???
also. im gonna be getting a wideband o2 kit for my bday... would i have to get 2 sensors.. one for each bank? or can i just put one wideband o2 sensor on my y pipe where the two banks meet?

Untrue....
if after tuning with the MAFT dynoing the the car with the wide band...if its 13.0 across the board it is what it is...it isnt richer because of gearing or shifting. Dyno sheet is on my website to prove the point.......Eric
