15" slicks

first off i have stock 16" rims.

my boss has some 15" slicks & skinnies he wants to sell to me....they won't fit without spacers, but that's beside the point.

any disadvantage to running 15" all around? is it gonna slow me down at all? any reason i shouldn't buy these? is it gonna make me spin more/have trouble hooking up? i'm running 4.10s now with approx 200 rwhp-dyno pending, 3.8 M5. thanks for any info.

the slicks will be too much tire for ur car, most likely they'll slow u down, but if u can get those, sell the slicks and get soem DR's then u'll have a good setup!

I don't like the idea of running spacers on wheels. It's really not 100% safe. You're better off getting some XP's and doing it right. Maybe just buy the slicks from him. You have to know what you're looking at though.. they may be worn out. Is there a shiny film on them? What's he asking for them? What size are they? What brand are they?

i'm not too crazy about running spacers either, but it's not like i'm pushing 400 rwhp either :D

they're used for one race cascar slicks, there's no shinyness, and the circumference is the same. sorry i can't remember the brand right now. oh, the skinnies are just taking up space in his garage & he wants them out...i haven't seen them, but apparently they're "still good."

cost...i owe him lunch somewhere. but i'd still have to buy rims/spacers. i just don't want to spend $100 & time, just to find out i'd be running slower with 15"s front & back. thoughts?

I disagree. I put slicks on my car and ran .2 better than with drag radials.

More traction can never slow you down.

The problem there is that XP's are more show rims than race rims. If you were going to get 16" XPs, you might as well just use some stock 5 spoke rims, as they weigh the same. One option is to grind the caliper so that it clears the rim, but that's not really 100% safe either, is it? ;)
I run 15" draglite rims on the front and back of my car (15x8 rear 15x3.5 front) pretty much all of the time. I use a 5/16" spacer on the front and I had to grind the caliper in the back to fit the rear rims on, but I also used a 5/16" spacer there too so I wouldn't have to grind as much. I know one person who's rear calipers broke after he shaved them for 15" Welds, but he was trapping at 132MPH... After they broke, he bought another brand of caliper that cleared the rim. I don't remember what they were but I can find out if you're interested. Of course if you have drum brakes in the back, you won't have this problem.

awesomname: XP is Weld's line of their drag rims (draglites and prolites) that are made in 16" and 17" instead of just 15". But like I said, a 16" Draglite XP weighs just about the same or more than a 16" stock 5 spoke fbody rim.

People here are scared of slicks for some reason.
I know of several 12 sec cars on slicks, and they ran like 5 thenths faster with them on, after trying nittos.

Hell yeah i had to run slicks when i sprayed best i could do was a 75 shot on nittos and that was a 1.75 60 foot when i went up to a 100 shot i needed slicks so i run a 26/11.5-16 ET street and best 60 foot to date is a 1.63 60 foot.

See that. They won't "Slow you down" unless you run an 18 second car that can't possibly loose traction at all. But what you gain in 60' will far outweigh what you might lose.
