• Ran 16s in the Z tonight :(

Z24 that is...

2000, 2.4L DOHC Chevy Cavalier Z24, Automatic.

22,000 miles, bone stock, did nothing really tro prep just low gas. Stock tire pressures, and weight.

1st run
My girlfreind's 1st run ever down the 1/4 mile me in the car with her.

R/T 1.238
60' 2.360
330 6.935
1/8 10.675
mph 66.10
1000 13.905
1/4 16.662
mph 81.38

Car had no spin on the launch and seemed to take off pretty hard, I was expecting spin with no burnout or anything.

2nd run, girlfriend driving, me with her again.
R/T .509
60' 2.389
330 6.980
1/8 10.740
mph 65.79
1000 13.987
1/4 16.758
mph 80.90

She said the car felt a little sluggis, but sweet R/T though

3rd run, Was her first run by herself, and down the track.

R/T .282 DOH!
60' 2.417 She had some spin, guess my big *** helps the car hook better, she even launched it not as hard.
330 6.868
1/8 10.511
mph 67.70
1000 13.672
1/4 16.369 Big improvement with me getting out of the car, even with the spin at launch.
mph 83.49

4th run, now this is my first time down the track driving it, me by myself.

R/T .768(crappy but I told her my 3rd yellow thing and she said, thats what she did, on the redlight she got, so I thought maybe since I fethered more on my clutch, that the auto took off faster)
60' 2.327 (best one of night, teeny bit of spin)
330 6.825
1/8 10.507
mph 66.93
1000 14.704
1/4 16.433
mph 82.51

All and all not too bad, I was hoping for a 15.9, talking with a guy, that had a similar z24 with a 5-speed said his best near stock was a 16.2 with an intake, but he has done cams and other bolt ons running 15.3-.4s now.

I think the Cavalier with a nice 2.3 60' with my girlfriend driving could hit a 16.2, maybe better, dead stock, not bad for an auto 4 banger stock and the first time down the strip.

Hmmm, I got a 15.6 out of my 97' Z24. What's the horsepower rating on yours? (I think mine is like 150hp/150torque).

not sure, but its the 2.4L DOHC

Auto, pretty nicely fully loaded as well, no sunroof though.

weighed in at 2785
Its probably about the same as yours was, came out of the whole stronger then I thought it woudl.

I have a buddy with a 2000 Z24 5 speed and it has gone a best of 15.4 with only intake and exhaust. A friend of his has an auto 2000 z24 and I think his best is 15.9. He was running tonight at the track and only managed low 16s, so your times are about right on for the auto.

Sounds like those things will take a fair ammount of 3.8s!

Wanna race? I still can get it in 2nd 20% of the time, and even if I don't get it on the first 2 tries, I woudl have enough of a lead in first gear it woudln't matter.

LOL
My car launches pretty hard
I have never lost a race off the line, just when I hit 2nd gear it used to lay over and lose power, but that doesn't happen so much anymore :D
That DIS-4 helped A LOT with that... helped a lot on the 2-3 shift at 70mph too.
I am still deciding if I should get coils/wires just to have an all-MSD ignition or if I should toy with my stereo and little hehe. I might not get either though, cause there might be a possibility of my tranny going out...

I also have 3.73s on my floor waiting to be installed Damn guy that is supposed to install them is taking forever to call me!

But soon I will have track times that make you go ;)

I'll bet on my car against any almost stock Cavalier.
