• Have a race lined up with a GTP... what do you gusy think...

    Me vs a GTP...

my car bone stock(in sig) but I think I have room for imporvement over my last trip, but I have plans to pull the filter, and ice the intake, maybe see if I can get a short belt or not... Think open TB might be better then no filter?

    his car bone stock

GTP jsut got it like 2-3 days ago, and dorve a 97 lt1 before hand. Before that had a 2.8L v6. So he is used to RWD cars, and now has a peppy FWD car to race.

Not sure if its a 2-door or 4-door....

I think he might be a little rusty with the track so we will see what his R/ts are like, my r/ts were a little rusty too...

Also with the open diffy think I woudl be better to over inflat the left rear, since it really doesn't get any power anyways, just less resistance down the track?

      GTP's gonna win unless he's a moron and cuts a 2.7 60'.

The GTP should smoke you unless like Keith says he screws up. Considering you ran 15.3 and GTP's are usually mid to high 14's stock.

You're going to loose. He'd really have to screw up. Like, go into reverse or something.

(maybe you get it to where he back's up to the starting line, and then have him forget to put in drive... then you might win...) :D

Well way I figure is he has a 14.7 car....

              I will cut a .5-.6 r/t to his possibly .7-.9 R/t...

then lets say he hits a 2.4 60' something I see being very possible at OSW(if you know the track you know what I am talking about)

Remeber he hasn't driven a fwd car consistantly ever, and this one is not cinch to launch, assuming by how my girlfreind's Cavalier was to launch...

And to top it all off I think he has been to the track like 2-3 times in like the last year...

I see me shaving at least a 1/10th of my 15.3, maybe 2/10ths...

either way I am looking at a .4-.5 disadvantage from his car to my car, something I see as overcomeable between a rusty drag racer in a completely different setup, and a halfway decent drag racer, who is has some expereince under his belt...

this isn't a street race from a roll, this is a drag race... he still has the advantage with power, but it will be a close race which makes it fun. Quit being a bunch of ninnies and actually race someone with mroe power and try to overcome him with skill... No one likes an easily slaughterable race. Who cares if I lose its still fun

Do I have to start posting timeslios of cars that actually ran a better time then me in a race but I beat them anyways?

What year is the GTP? 2001 and newer have really restrictive air filters and boxes. My brother's 97 ran mid 14s but my dad's 2002 runs 15.6 (I had to give him crap for that since my 2.8 runs high 15s). It has less than 10,000 miles on it and it doesn't even spin the tires. My brother, who reprograms them (Digital Horsepower) says that's normal for the newer ones. Funny thing is that all you need is CAI and a reprogramming and its a mid 14sec car.

You mean if you won a race just because of reaction time you would honestly say your car is faster than a gtp? Thats some funny stuff right there. Regardless even if he cuts a horrible light he will eat you alive before the 1/4 is up

uhmm ok, do you guys even drag race? I say he is looking to run a 14.7-15.0, me I might hit a 15.1, or 15.2

                        Whats so off about that?

I am not saying my car is faster, his is faster, he has more hp and torque then me. But I still might beat him. There is more to drag racing then bench racing... driver is actually a factor.

And someone from this board said that someone who races GTPs regularly could only muster a 15.6 out of one. My 3.4L coudl have beaten that.

I still think I have a chance, though it is favored for hm ot win(the whole more hp and torque thing)

either way we will see what happens when we race...

                          i dont know you guys..

i race my girlfriend all the time.

she has a 96 buick riviera (sp?) supercharged L67 just like the gtp.

i hang dead even with her through first and second.. once i hit third i start to pull pretty good on her.

i know the car is heavier than the gtp.. but still.

i also have mods to back it up though.

on the strip anything can happen. they spin the tires fairly easy

mustang eater, if your car is still bone stock, your 15.3 is a damn good time. thats what GM High Tech ran. when they pulled the air filter off, and the serpentine belt, they ran a 15.1

i would say that if your car is stock (and a non-y87, cause i dont know if the GM High Tech run was on a Y87 or not), you will not cut a 15.1, unless the track is slightly downhill, you have a tailwind, and it is 10 degrees out.

my money is on the GTP, but like i said, itll give you something to work to.

cammed 3800, don't be ignorant. at the track it's not who traps higher or even runs faster, it's who gets the win light. a 15.0 with a .500 reaction time beats a 14.6 with a 1.0 reaction time.

mustangeater, i know from experience, leave the lid/filter on. it slows me down ~.3 open TB, about .15 no filter...so don't do that :-p
