• question for 5-speed w/ 3.23s trapping about 90-91 mph in the 1/4...

What gear are you in, at the end of the 1/4, I stayed in 3rd, just barely got by before I hit the rev limiter. Think I should go for 4th gear? I am a pretty quick shifter and 3rd-4th is easy. OR should I stay in 3rd? On the street, I say the powerrange in 3rd starts to dip down around 85-88ish mph, but that could be inaccurate to speedo lag.

You should not be hitting the rev limiter until 97-98 mph. On top of that I would not worry until you are hitting the rev limiter b/f the 1/4 or at the 1/4.

m5, 3.23 here.

15.349 @ 90.50 mph.

i've never gone out of third....i hear 4th gear is a dog, so i'd just keep it in 3rd. try it out tho & keep me updated how it works out...

yeah that is not happening, I would be hitting the rev limiter WAAAAAAAY before that.

I would just stay in 3rd. I hit the rev limiter right around 98. My best trap N/A was 94mph. I think that if you shifted you would lose time.

Trapping at 90.8 in 3rd. Never tried shifting to 4th, but I think I could get to at least 95 before I really need to shift.
Now if I could only get my 60' down, I'd be doing good.

I did 89.97ish back when I was NA ... third gear on my 3.23 M5. (only one trip to track NA, 12 runs)
Now I'm doing 98.2ish with the turbo (one trip to track 7psi, 6 runs), and I had issues at the top top end with the clutch slipping, so I had no choice but to go into 4th. As it sounds, if the limiter is at 98, you'll be good in 3rd NA on 3.23's. But if you move to a power adder, 4th will be there for you.

I trap ~92.3-4 consistently, I always stay in 3rd. the shift into 4th only costs you time. I've tried it I know ;)

and yes, speedo/tach lag OWNS our cars...I've banged the limiter after the tach JUMPED from 5100 to 6000...

I top out third and it feels like the power falls off before the 1/4 is over.

Shifting to fourth puts me under peak HP and it feels like it is pulling in the end.

I think my quickest runs have been in fourth for what it matters. That is with a 2.5+ 60'.

Last night on my 14.8s, and 14.6 run I swore I was abotu to hit the rev limiter...

I felt out of the power band...

and actually on 2 of the runs I shifted to 4th, I cannot remember which ones though.
