lol.

id probably bet that youd get better use from the gunpowder if you built a huge musket barrel, put in the gunpowder, paper, cotton, paper, then your car, and threw rocks at the back of the thing.

but youd still probaly get beat by one of those things

You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter "twin-turbo" powered
Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is staged and
ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the
advantage of a flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears
and blast across the starting line and past the dragster at an honest 200
mph. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment.

The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard,
but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within
3 seconds the dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the finish
line, a quarter mile away from where you just passed him.

Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 mph
and not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you
within a mere 1320 foot long race course.

simply amazing

I pulled 4.8 G's in my buddy's stunt plane. I can't even imagine 8 Gs. Especially if you are on the ground.

hmmm my math may be wrong but I calculated that at 200mph you would be doing .055555555555555555555miles/second so approximately 4.5 seconds. Don't get me wrong I have seen dragsters in action. But the comparison is a bit off.

It says that you pass it by doing 200mph. so that means you are doing 200 from beginning to end. Meaning that you do the 1/4 Mile in 4.5seconds. So techinically it would still be closer than we think. But the dragster would still win.

ive worked with some crazy vehicles b4(busch cars and various circle track sutff) and i know some guys that worked with top fuel teams and i even have some various parts from them just cus i collect stuff like that.

its insane how detuned those engines are just to get them to catch traction. if those cars produced all the power that engine was capable of they would literally obliterate the tires. thats why the tuner/crew chief is so important on those cars is that they normally opperate at btwn 50-55% of what they can actually produce. if things go as planned, rods and and pistons can be used for 2 runs, most teams with bigger budgets only go 1. cranks about 5 runs, blocks 25-30, heads get new valves and springs after every run and the blowers ususally go about 30 runs b4 needing rebuilds if i remember right. they use no transmission. its all a hydraulic controlled multi disk clutch. the clutch reaches lockup close to half track. using the time it takes to lockup the clutch is another way to tune the cars for track conditions. they are direct linked to the rear end and the rear end gear is mandated by NHRA and IHRA.

the cars continue to get faster even as IHRA and NHRA try to make them slower. records were set this year with 90% nitro 10% alcohol(wasnt mandated untill a few years ago) and they limited them to 25% overdrive on the blowers and untill the last 2 years that wasnt mandated either... there crazy and I love to see them. nice post.

This is a rather old thingy =) still cool, but the purpose of me saynig so is we got in a funny flame war about it on LS1.com a while ago =) I still think the TT vette would pull for a bit longer =P considering It can do ¼ mile in 8 seconds with traction.

btw the vette can go above 200mph so technically he would be accelerating the entire time since the story says you keep your foot on the accelerator hard.
