What is the backspace you all run with 15x8 prostars? Will 4.5" work?

4.5" will stick out a bit. Need 5.5"

You'll need a 5/16" spacer for the front if you put skinnies on up there. For the rear you'll be fine if you have drum brakes, but you may need to grind the calipers if you have disc brakes. I'm not sure about the rear brakes on the 97s, but the 98+ had large calipers like the LS1's, which require some grinding. If you need to grind, I can send you some pictures of how I did mine. You'll also need a different lug nut for these wheels. You need a "long shank" mag style lug nut that goes down inside the wheel, because your wheel studs will not stick out of them. Also make sure you get a washer so you don't scar up the rim (although the washer will scar it up a bit too, but not as much as the bare lug nut). You should find the lug nuts and the correct washers in the same place at pretty much any parts store.

I have 15x8 prostars on my car now.. Well the rear anyways.. I have a 98 Firebird and tried to Grind the calipers in the rear but even with the spacer and a little bit grinded off The wheels still would not turn at all.. The caliper locked the wheel.. So I switched to LT1 Rear calipers which are smaller but still a good brake.. You have to use a 5/16th or 1/4 inch spacer or you can do what I did and grind off the fins on the calipers and not use a spacer at all..

The front 15/ 3 1/2 skinnies are the problem.. I have been grinding down the front calipers and using spacers and they still wont fit at all.. They suck.. I have no idea how I am going to get them on.. I dont want to change out my front calipers beacause they are awsome brakes and 80 percent of braking is done by the front..
