• 17 more pounds gone

5 for cruise control unit
12 for windshield wipers.

I was trying to ditch just the passenger side one.... after 1+ hour of wrenching I tried the drivers side and it came out in 15+ minutes.

On the to do list:
EGR delete
Air bag delete (both)
ABS block delete

Looking for 2899 pounds

As it is, I do not drive the car in bad weather so the wipers were not needed.

Install and removal, from drivers side, is actually quite easy.

Trying to do the passenger sde only is difficult as hell.

I dunno if I'll put them back in

I mean if you have a seoncd vehicle and you don't really have too much rain shouldn't be that bad but down here... windshield wipers are mandatory...

Of course.

Although the air bag delete..... I have read up on it and it seems easy but I'm scared to do it.

I dunno if I will do it or have a shop do it.

I can just imagine... turning a wrench and BAM!

airbag in your face

I dont think it owuld be too hard, I mean theives can get them out of cars in like 5 minutes...

Jsut disable the airbag system before you work on it(you know the warning for in every book that gives a write up about anything near airbag wires...)

if you disconnet the battery it **shouldn't** be a problem, unless there's a little capacitor or battery in there somewhere that keeps the darned thing armed even after the battery is disconnected....that would suck

there's gotta be a sure-fire way to disable it to work on it tho

James- I think you'll want to check on the windshield wipers. I think they are required pretty much everywhere for inspection (where inspection is required). I think you can remove the washer fluid resevoir and its lines, but the wipers have to go back and forth.

From what i understand there is a capacitor that remains charged for scenarios where the vehicle loses complete power (altenator and battery). The airbag still needs to be able to be deployed in situations that would trigger its release.

So yes there is a potential that even with the batter disconnected that it could still go off.

James, I'm interested in buying your cruise control module. Let me know if you want to sell it.

i used to be in the fire department and the average time the compasitor holds is like one minute. im only 99% sure about whether it will only take 5 minutes. go to the local fire dept and they have books that tell how long it takes. they are extremely cautious about these things because they have to cut cars and stuff. they will also be able to help you locate the airbag sensors and that will shave off a few pounds. seriously though unplug the battery and give it an hour. i gauruntee they will be disarmed by then. the longest i saw on a car that had 16 airbags was like ten minutes. camaros arent exotic so they only take a few minutes. GIVE IT AN HOUR JUST TO BE SAFE, IF I go home within the next few months and you still havent pulled them out i will look it up in my books. also those things are worth lots of money so dont damage them, sell em for som more performance stuff.

I appreciate the info.

Been on the fire department for just under 10 years.

I've seen enough video of firefighters getting knocked out cold by air bags.
