• Talk about WEIGHT...The Rollbar....

Came yesterday via UPS and it is heavy as a mofo. There is no way in hell this thing weighs 59lbs. I'm going to weigh it now... update on the weight in a bit.

Sure your just not being a wuss?

Its still worth while... should stiffen up the chassis a bit and make things safer...

I think I am being a wuss...I must be getting weaker in my old age. It's pretty bulky...but I just weighed it..it's only like 40lbs... I'm going to remove the cross-brace to see how much it weighs without it..(yeah, I know..I need that for lateral support)

Forget about the weight -- having the bar stiffens up the chassis so much, that you'll gain back the weight penalty in a better launch.

BTW, what brand do you have? Getting a custom one, i.e. from a roll bar shop, is much better than getting a wolfe / autopower / etc, b/c you can get a much much better fit, and customize it how you want. Don't skimp on safety, or you'll be the first dead V6'er in the 11's, and that would make us all very sad.

            Good luck!

              40lbs? wow, thats light.

if i remember right shirl, you only got the 4pt one. think of it this way. 40lb dumbbells arent big at all.....picture that metal spread out through all that tubing.......

              40lbs is a steal........

paint it the color of your car, if its not already. painted rollcages look sweet....

and get some pics too! ;)

Yeah, I guess it feels heavy as hell when you pick it up because it's big and bulky. It'll do the job..this thing is solid. Rob, it's an Autopower 4 point bar with a cross brace. I ordered it a month ago from RK Sport $299.00 and got free shipping on it (saved about $55). I didn't want a full cage. I've seen this bar in Camaros before and looks awesome. Ian, my car is black with some purple. The bar comes painted black. I'll probably get some purple on it or something..don't know yet. I haven't even taken it out of the bubble wrap yet..I've been taking care of my mom (she just got out of Kessler).

Haven't gotten mine yet... a review of my finances showed me that I either need to hold off on the car for a while (modding AND racing, as I can't afford to break something) or get a second job. I'm looking for a second job ;)

However I do have mine picked out. It will be a chrome moly 8 pt bar with swingout doors. I don't think it's going to be perfectly fit to my car (I may need to bend the rear bars some, they'll probably be shipped straight). I also have access to all the equipment and help I need to bend/weld it. I can't remember the brand name of it but it costs ALOT less than the Wolfe bars.

I highly recomend the wolfe bars..

My 8 pt (with middile down bars) weights 65.5 lbs.. its chromoly. That weight is with all the mounting hardware and everything.

I like the wolfe bars, and I like the idea that I can feel confident that it will fit perfect with no bending or anything, but those bars are too expensive for my budget. For a Wolfe 6 point (never found a price on an 8pt) chrome moly weld in with swingouts, I'm looking at a $650 figure to have it shipped to my house. The other bar I'm looking at might require some bending, but it's made from the same 1 3/4" chrome moly material and costs nearly half that. I can't pass that deal up.

Both looks and price were a consideration for me choosing the Autopower. It's not NHRA legal..but...I can add an extra bar if I really need to (which I probably won't have to where I race). I've been wondering how safe I will be since there are no side bars to it..The only thing is..we have side beams in our doors from GM. Basically, I wanted some structure above my head where the t-tops are. Also, I feel, a full cage for my car is way overboard..I don't race every weekend and it's not like my car is making immense power at all times. Also, I wanted a bolt-in bar and honestly didn't really like the looks of the Wolfe cages. The tubing looks too skinny in the pics I've seen. Anyway, I'll actually take it outta the bubble wrap today, weigh the cross-brace and look it over.

don't just think of the roll bar as being a track-only improvement. what happens if somebody t-bones you w/ that roll bar in there? i'm sure it'll make chances of survival a little better. also, what about handling and traction? stiffening the chassis is one of the main things to having a good handling car. reducing chassis flex also helps when you launch hard off the line, maintaining better traction for longer.

I wonder if the wolfe 6 pt. or 8 pt. cages will fit w/ a RKSport rear hatch? would I have to get the "over the seat" bars?
