SO the race fuel hurt your times? What did you do? run the tank down at the track, then drive to a gas station, and put some regular in it and ran faster?
Race fuel will not neccesarily hurt you, maybe just not help you I have run 100+ octane in my 94, didn't affect a thing just made it smell cool(reason for race gas, was I was sputterting so I put 1.5 gallons of race fuel in for the last 2 runs and drive to gas station after the track closed) Long term woudl effect o2s(if your in a FI car)
Timers are screwy...you say you cannot control your wheelspin but you hit a 1.7 60'? Thats hard not easy to hit, especially on stock suspension... What gears do you have(Yes I am asking a question could you please answer it, even asked politely) Stockv6cam hit a 1.8 on drag radials and 3.73s... which lead to a nice time but not so high mph... Also what tires are you on, Drag radials, slicks, definitely not street tires, unless you converted to AWD
and still running low 16s? with a 97mph trap? That means you might have spun and got a horrible run but like said you had a 1.7 60', which means you probably hooked well.
The first couple runs seem about right... I forgot what my 85 2.8L trapped but it ran mid to low 17s... I bet you could get a better 60' 2.3, is a little high, maybe a 2.0-2.2 depending on your gears, which woudl dip it down to the high 16s.
to help, my old 2.8L, had a K&N filters, bottom of the airbox cutout, 3 or 4in. tubing tunning to the grill and some sort of aftermarket exhaust, had a nice rumble. And a Accel ignition coil(also plugs and wires). I actually still have the ignition coil.
