All, we set the rules years ago when we founded this list and we're not about to start changing them now.
Yes. The point of the damn page is to inspire people with what they can do to THEIR ENGINES. If we were to allow different engines then what's to stop us from allowing LS1's, LT1's, or big blocks???
Stroked or bored out engine is still the same engine so that's fine.
No. We don't cater to hybrids and we never will. We cater to owners of V6 powered F-Bodies, not to people who go out swapping engines. The same rule here applies as the V8 swap rule. We will never have a swap forum, we will never have a swap section on the Timeslips Page. This issue has been discussed to death, I'm tired of repeating myself.
I strongly doubt our "stock block" policy will ever be outdated. I don't think there will ever be a day when we have more members with a swapped engine than the original. If that ever happens we'll might as well change the site name to www.FirebirdFormerlyAV6.com.
I have said this for years and I will say it again: NO.
Timbo, I know you don't mean to but you always seem to ask the question that's been asked again and again. The Timeslips Page was intended as a V6 Revenge idea. It was to show the anti-V6 world that V6's CAN indeed be made to be extremely fast without needing to swap engines or go to a factory turbocharged engine. It was the underdog's stab at fortune and glory.
The Turbo Trans Am has never been an underdog. They ran 12's stock and will put a severe beating on any LS1/LT1. Therefore there is no need for them to have the same sort of recognition that we need here on this site.
If we started allowing Turbo Trans Ams then people would notice, as you pointed out, that the fastest V6's are the ones that came with the factory turbo--the ones that already have a legendary status. Lagging far behind them would be us, the slow-as-piss-in-comparison N/A factory V6's. That would hurt our cause much more than help it.
Besides, they already have turbobuick.com.
No. They can go to a hybrid site if they want to swap engines. Our site is for V6 Firebirds and Camaros, and it will stay that way. This is not up for a vote, this has been our policy since I first made that list back in 1999. Its been running for five years, its not about to change its primary purpose now.
It destroys the integrity of the list. It is supposed to show GRASSROOTS-STYLE what our cars can do. Not what it can do with a different engine. Period.
This is not a matter up for a vote, it is a policy that has been in force for five years and will continue to do so for years to come. Thank you and have a pleasant afternoon.
