• bolt ons shooting for 14's

hey gang,
i know craig griffis mostly lurks instead of posting, so i figured i woudl do a little biut of bragging for him since he made some good gains at the track friday.
a while ago craig ran a 15.56 @ 89.12mph with only a lid. he managed to cut a 2.21 60ft on the stock 3.23 peg leg.
well, we went back to the track last friday and craig had his eyes on running 14's with his recent mods. he added an SLP under chin, pro 5.0 shifter, and a posi(kept stock 3.23 gears). he also removed his rear seats and belts fo r weight reduction and we dropped the front sway bar to try to get a little weight transfer.
as many of you know, friday night was very @#$%*& cold. air temp was about 25 when he was racing.
the results were mixed. he did manage a best of 15.239 @ 92.xx mph, but his 60ft's were in teh 2.3's all night. everyone who was at atco was having traction issues, even the guys on huge slicks. the ground was plain old frozen.
we even strapped on a borrowed pair of slicks for a few runs but craig still managed to spin out of the hole and the extra rolling resistnace of the bias ply's cost him a ton of mph. he cut a 2.18 60ft, and ran 15.236@90 mph.
hopign for better track conditions in a few weeks when craig plans to head back to the track, hopefully get to see soem 14's out fo the car with just a few bolt ons.

nice...

I wouldn't worry too much about slicks... especially in cold weather. HE doesn't exactly have a full need for them... Though weather that cold helps hp, it kills traction...really heat the piss out of the tires if you are going to run...

Tell him to launch that thing harder, he shoudl aim for abotu a 2.0 60'

btw whats a SLP under chin?

the under chin teh the same thing as the fast toys ram air and all teh other ram air pieces on teh market, http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=21033
the drag slick thing was jsut a shot cause foff667 was there and offered the use of them for a few runs. he had trouble getting them warm cause they woudl push teh car forward, so he never got a good burnout, then they were too cold and he managed to spin them on launch.

james, do you really have to ask if i will be going to e-town?...lol it is gonna be a while before i go there again. craig is actually goin to be in LA all weekend for a wedding.

traction has not been a problem for craig in warmer weather, i think it was jsut the track conditions at the time that held him back, we will see.

ok cool, so SLP ripped off another design of something :D

Good times... I kinda wanna put my original rims and tires back on, and rig up soem sort of cold air/ram air setup.... open TB was not ideal but I wanted to see how far I coudl go without spending money...

and as stated weight reduction always helps...

I ran off a 14.92 @ 92.2 with nothing but whisper lid/filter, Z28 I pipe and Flowmaster muffler. that was on a 2.19 60' with peg leg.

it's possible!

i was actually wonderign what kind of mph craig can run if he actually hooks it. he was peddling it pretty bad all teh way to the 60's. if he can find teh traction there may be a bit more there, only time will tell.
a few things may be different when he goes back to the track. a fresh tune up with new plugs and wires is planned(he is all original at 36k miles :( ) and we are gonna try to get at least a cat back situated under the car, if we have time/materials he will have a custom y-pipe + !cat + 3inch s-pipe (i love knowing how to weld!)
which do you guys think would hook better, craig has ss wheels with 275/40 hankook's(specs are teh same as kuhmo's basically) and a set of 245 winter tires? i am wondering if the additional sidewall and little bit softer compound of the winter tires would help. any guess'?

I saw dump the wheels... Traction isn't too huge of a problem on 3.8Ls...

He shoudl be able to cut a 2.1 on street tires which I think will be enough to squeze him into the 14s, with the less drag and weight of bigger fatter tires down the track...
