  • Autocross Slicks for drag racing?

A guy gave me (as in free!) a pair of Hoosier P275/45ZR16 slicks. These are advertised as being for autocrossing and road course. They are a little worn but easily have a season of drag racing left in them.

Will these slicks be good for drag racing? I figure even though they are not specifically made for drag racing they still have to be better than my stock Goodyear Eagle HP's. They are 2 inches wider than my street tires, that has to be a good thing!

I am currently looking for a cheap set of wheels to mount them on, I am planning on checking out some salvage yards this weekend.

Any opinions about these tires being used for drag racing?

Well, it will be a softer compound than a typical radial tire so it should be an improvement

Yeah they should work fine. At Lexus we run the Hoosier GAC-spec tires, and they're nice. I would definately suggest a burnout, though, as cold slicks tend to not stick at all.

Yeah, that was pretty well what I was thinking as well. Just double checking myself.

        Thanks!

Road Race tires will need a HUGE burnout. I tried a $20 pair of BFG road racers and they were slippery unless they were nearly on fire.

yeha they will needed to be heated up...

they will work, I did alot research between drag tires in autocross tires since I compete in both trying to see if I coudl compair, the tire comppund is pretty much the same, jsut the sidewalls of the tire and other things are different.

Are you getting rims with them?

If not look for a set of used Early C4 rims, they had 16X9 sawblades, friend of mine runs them on his SS with that size tire, but on Kuhmo Victo racers.

i have a set of victoracers that i run at the track... i got them really cheap mounted on some salad shooters back when i was more into roadracing. if you dont bake em off before you launch they hook like a set of street tires. after a decent burnout though they hook pretty well

Ok, I will be sure to do a good burnout. I have only drag raced on street tires before so I have never actually done a burnout at the track. I guess that will give me something to embarrass myself with while I am there:)

I am looking for a pair of wheels to put them on I will look into the C4 wheels mentioned above.

                Thanks!

you could probably be able to fit them on a set of salad shooters, 2 of mine were a 265/45/16 and they fit on the rim fine, im sure another centimeter wouldnt make a difference.. but yes .. big burnout or they are going to act just like a big tire
