hey gang,
since craig griffis continues to lurk instead of bragging i am gonan do it for him again.
went back to the track last friday, atco of course. this time he grabbed a set of 235/60 15 BFG DR's on 3rd gen bird wheels i had here and ran them.
the results were great

new best 60ft of 2.17 [img]graemlins/rock.gif[/img] (he still spun the tires a bit)
new best et of 14.904 [img]graemlins/rock.gif[/img]
new best mph of 92.57 [img]graemlins/rock.gif[/img]

all of this and he was still adjsuting to trying to get a good burnout on the tires, we ddin't play with teh tire pressure at all to try to get a better hook, and he didn't get staged taht great on teh run that produced all of his best numbers.
we are gonna get the tiemslip scanned and the video of the run hosted asap so everyone can see it. we will also be adding a lot fo info about craigs car to teh crazy peopel racing web sit ewith in teh next few days so everyone can see what he has.
hopefully he will be back at the track with in the next few weeks with a few more carefully choosen mods [img]smile.gif[/img] with a little more grip we think he can crack into the top 15 or so on the timeslips page [img]graemlins/burnout.gif[/img]

his car is equiped with disc brakes in the rear.
we are thinkin a line lock kit from slp may be on the car in the near future. that will help with teh whole heating of the tires/getting in trouble at stop lights thing [img]graemlins/burnout.gif[/img]

He fit 3rd gen 15s over rear disc brake calipers, I am assuming 98+ since pre 98 rear disc is somewhat rare on v6s...

which 3rd gen wheels did he use? Also did they work on the front?

the car is an '02. teh 3rd gen wheels fit with about 1/2 inch of space to spare from teh caliper to teh inner lip of the rim. the wheels are teh aluminum 15inch fan style taht were on most all the base models from about 87 through 92.
the 235/60 drag radials provide a ton moe grip than you would think a tire that small could.

they are the rims on teh blue firebird in teh first link. they are rather common at salvage yards and you can prolly score a pair of them to throw a set of stickies on for under $30 from your locla u-pull-it

they fit perfectly over the rear '02 discs, we never tried them on the front, but i doubt it. they will easily fit over the drums since gm seems to have been to lazy to ever change teh base 9.5 inch drum in the last 4 decades or so [img]smile.gif[/img]
anyone who has drums shoudl go to their local junk yard and try to find a set of aluminum drums. they were put on a variety of mid and full size gm cars from teh 60's through the early 90's. they are real easy to spot, they will be grey in color and have big cooling fins sticking up. most yards are about $10-14 each. it saves 7-11lbs per side.
