I always run my heater while I am in the staging lanes then turn it off before I run.

I turn it off because with the windows up and the heater on in the summer obviously it would get quite uncomfortable in the car.

Turning your heater on should cool the coolant down a little more since it is drawing heat out of it.

Having a heater on won't slow the car at all.
It was probably just a bad run for him.

The trick that some use is to keep the heater blowing full blast in the staging lanes moving up to keep the car from heating up as quickly since it's not getting a lot of air to cool it.

I've tried it and not seen any noticible increase/decrease in time.

        nope it won't....

he is a post I had to show some local guys that my times were not B.S. and claimed removing the belt will not have any effect.

so if i take off my belt and disconnect my exhaust i run 14's, damn how come everyone isnt doing it. *notice the sarcasm
Ill still have to see it to believe it, Ill have to run him sometime then.

I don't know, worked for me...

how come I ran a 15.4 in my old 3.4L v6 beating guys with heads and cams in the same motor.

You don't get fast times by just throwing money at your car...

did you know if you just went to the track and practice I bet you $50 you could run a high 14... you have a freaking 2.6 60' you do know that every 1/10th in the 60' is about 2/10ths in the 1/4 right?

Cut your 60' to a 2.2(still not good but reasonable) and you might run a 14.8-14.9 probably at least a 15.0. Probably only cost you ~$60 for 4 trips to the track.

I cut 2.1s with an open diff on bald tires at OSW(and we know how they are known for great traction)

Want some history... my dad bought the car summer of 2000

My clutch went out on my 94, on my way to ft. lauderdale visiting my parents, my dad let me take his camaro up while my car got fixed since I had class the next day.

So I took it to the track that weekend and on OCT 28, 2000 I ran these times when the car had 7,000 miles on it

        16.288@87.95 mph with a 2.502 60'
        15.875@88.25 mph with a 2.347 60'
        16.014@87.06 mph with a 2.499 60'

I couldn't launch worth a crap cuz the power band in the 3.8L was completely different between my 3.4L and the 3.8L, shift points and were waaaay off and best launching was different.

over 3 years later with alot more practice on the T5, I buy the car from my dad.

        February 18th 2004
        had my Zr1s ons
I had clutch problems all night long, I was running 9.8-9.9 1/8th miles and 2.2 60's

        April 8th 2004
New plugs, wires, fuel filter and CAT
Clutch problems again... It wasn't as bad this time, I was riding the clutch getting up to the line hard to get some heat in it.
had all bad 1/8th miles, my best run was a 14.805@93.47 mph, with a 2.198 60'(clutch slips at line when I have it fully released)

those are the timeslips I have on hand, I have run it more but I cannot find the slips, I lost a few, threw a few out.

Reason why I posted all this crap most of you don't car about is I don't like being called a liar and have people think I am a stupid ricer. Not sure when I will be able to make it out, so I put these up.

        enjoy...

on our cars (GM) when you have the heater on in defrost, or the last 2 settings all the way clockwise on the knob, it runs the AC...

btw, the alternator puts the same drag on the belt at all times... when more current gets pulled, it just falls short, it doesn't increase the RPM's or workload like the AC does.

and yes, running the heater is like using a small secondary radiator, it helps cool the coolant down.

I don't see how any of this would effect the time unless you had the heat on in "defrost" mode which would run the AC, robbing some HP.

Yeah, we were talking about this yesterday and the heat along with the defroster were on during that run. So, you're theory sounds correct...
