  • Something is wrong with my 1/4 time

Last week I took my 3.4 auto Camaro to the track and ran slower then I though I would, heres timeslip with my best run:
    Receweight 3374
    Temp 42
    Relative Humid. 76
    R/T .226
    60' 2.317 (new 245/50/16 Kumho's 711 @ 28psi)
    1/8 10.203
    1/4 16.053
    MPH 83.52
My mods are: ebay CAI, 3" pacesetter exhaust, 3" Magnaflow Cat, Alum. DS, LSD w/stock 3.23, 180* thermo. and ASP crank pulley. My stock best was 16.685@80.76 with 2.486 60' time. My best w/ exhaust and K&N filter was 16.229@82.38 with 2.293 60' time and 3476 raceweigh. What I dont understand is with that much more done to a car how come its only .2 faster. Its 100 lbs lighter so I should have lost .1 plus the mods. May be my trans is slipping?

your 60' time went up after you added an LSD???

the pulley and d/s wont help much, but the LSD should have helped you get off the line quicker, not slower... practice launching your car more

also what did you do to drop the 100 lbs?

I had steel wheels before with 215s, now i have 5 spokes so they must be much lighter, alum ds is like 10-15lbs lighter and i removed spare, jack and back seat, so that must have worked out to 100lbs. I had couple 2.29s 60' but my 1/4 time was slower, 16.109@82.82 and 16.095@83.00.

try practicng the launches a little more...

when I did gears/lsd/lt1 driveshaft, my car ran the same... Then after a few trips out I cut .4-.5 consitantly off my times.

Well your car is a stick, i wish i could be dropping the clutch at 4-5K and cutting 2.0s, but its an auto, i dont think it could do better than 2.2 I dont spin that much, ( at least i dont feel it) i just hear tire chirp till 3K and then it kinda hooks. Oh and what was your 1/8 time on 15.7-15.9 runs, cuz it shifts to 3rd gear @ 70 mph at the middle of the track and then almost doesnt gain anything, thats why i asked if my tranny is slipping?

my car when I shifted to 3rd woudl jsut fall flat on its face too...

my hwole run was the first part of the track...

Jsut keep practicing... I had lots of 2.1s and and was in the 15s...

A Converter will help but, every mod I take to the track, I did not notice a huge difference my first time out, just progressively got better with practice...

You definetly have to work on your 60' times. Just practice launching all the time. Don't worry about r/t's for the moment. Are you stalling the car up (holding gas and brake...then letting off brake), or just launching from idle?

Sounds like you are spinning off the line more than you think. Work on your 60' times, and you will notice a big difference at the far end of the track.

I powerbrake it to around 1500 and then floor it. Out track went to .000 tree this year, my best reaction was .156 but that doesnt help in 1/4 mile.

Damn....And you're DIASAPPOINTED?????? That's friggin outstanding with those little mods. The fact you have an Auto is even more amazing. It's pretty hard to believe really.

That is actually not a bad time AT ALL for a 3.4 with those mods. My suggestions are to upgrade gears to 3.42 or 3.73, practice your launches, and play with your tire psi. Start with about 22psi in the rears and 40 or so in the fronts and work from there. Don't feel pressured at the track to get the timing right on the lights, get a good launch: reaction time doesn't mean sh##. Try to get that race weight down too, pull any extra crap you have in your car and take out the spare tire and jack. My car's weight without me (160 lbs) was 3275 with removed spare and jack, a pretty low weight for a 3.8. Every little bit helps with weight.
