• Finally got to the track, new personal best n/a 3.4L, new problem...Now w/ pics

I went to Byron Dragway earlier today. Temperature was 75* w/ 70% humidity. Please keep in mind that I haven't mastered the manual trans yet and that I was running TOO rich the whole day. I have been working on the programming for the eprom and its still too rich. At higher rpms, I loose power since its so rich. I guess that you be great once I put the spray on it. But now for the times. I am car 84.

I probably should have stopped after this run since something didn't feel right. I let the car cool for 15 mins and checked everything out. Then I did this.

    Twelveth run.

I shut it down halfway down the track. The launch was very sluggish and seconds later I could smell the burning clutch. I had just enough clutch left to get it off the track. I guess that's not bad, the centerforce clutch lasted me a whole month. The day still sucked since I ran faster with the auto and the old chip which of course I didn't bring with me. I dropped 10 mph in my trap speed from before I started changing the eprom. But at least I have numbers to work with.

sounds like the car's got some good times in it, especially that 15.4! get a consistent launch (new clutch?) and you'll be golden :D

The weatherman has been calling for rain on Saturday here all week. When it didn't rain, I ran for the track and there were only like 20 cars.

heheh I did that one day also... I got 17 runs in, and that was stopping and letting people go around me so I could let my car cool down a bit...

FAST TIMES! ....but not fast enought ;)

I am sure you will be there sometime...

What gears are you running? 3.73s? The mph, was a little low for that 60' and time(well going by how my old car was set up)

Yeah, I was running 3.73. I think I will switch them back to the 3.23s the next time I go. I seem to remember when I was getting those higher trap speeds with the auto, I also had the 3.23s in the rear. I switched the trans and rear end gears at the same time so I never got to try the T5 w/ the 3.23s.

                    I don't have any 3.42s lying around. I still have the 3.23s.

How did you get so many runs at Byron?? That place is usually a parking lot.

                      Nice times.

The weather out here called for rain. Hell, I wasn't even going to the track but I passed it on my way to look at other firebird. I noticed it was open and then noticed that no one was there.

I would stick with the 3.73s, but I think 2.0s or better 60' are possible.

That would give you the record, and in my opinion the even unofficial record as well.(15.39 guy that bought my old car ran that)

I think stockv6cam pulled 1.8s on 3.73s and a 5-speed, they are a bit steep in the 1/4 but not outragous. if I can pull 2.0s all day on 3.42s you shoudl be able to get at least that.

Jsut get the car running right and take it down, tear into your shifter through the runs and you should be able to get the record.

btw any chance you ever get a basic track weight of your car?

My 3.4L weighed 3200 night of my record run and had a best weight of a 3160 for full interior minus spare.

I did get it down to 3020 striping the interior but the car was running like ***...

Got the LO3s beat ;) . Once you get the hang of the stick, you'll be glad you swapped. I wish I would have gone T5 instead of spending a grand on a rebuild...
