you better hurry stefan, on a puny 5 psi of boost I ran 13.6s at 102 last week on my street tires 17 in kumhos! I now built a ghetto boost controller and have it dialeed in at the level I want. 12s SOON.

13.87 @101 street tires, radials.. not DR's no skinnies, and swaybar installed... only weight mods was no spare tire or backseat (but i dont ever have those in) 13.37 with nittos, skinnies, and no sway bar
Now my car is daily driven with the set up you saw at the track, and the same set up that i ran the 13.37 pass... with exception of having 25 psi on the street as opposed to 16 psi at the track in the nittos..
technically my car is always in street trim at the track, because i consider every stop light the track, depending on whos next to me...

So basically, track conditions and tires netted you a full half second ET. Very interesting.
I'd like to see what Shane and James run on Goodyear Eagle GA's or some other OEM-grade tire. Knowing how traction-limited their setups are I would not be surprised if Shane's post above about 14's is true.

I wouldnt wish GAs on anyone for drag racing... at least go with a GOOD tire 2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

Doing the street tire thing speaks of "street racing", and that's what I'd like to not promote.
And be careful when talking about track conditions netting good times -- sure they can vary, but until EVERYONE quotes their times with DA #'s and track conditions, (oh i ran a 14.1 but the VHT was junk that day), then bag it, and keep it at a simple time @ mph (60').
Me? I ran my 15.3 NA on street tires, and the 14.3 on 7psi on street tires -- notice I quote LSD 711s in the sig after the times. Oh, oops, ****, I guess I do throw my hat in. Hmm ... :footinmouth: ... look for 12.8 @ 107 (1.9), 8psi, LSD BFG's ... if I can ever get the car together! IMHO, nittos ARE street tires.
Most serious speed enthusiasts roll around on Nittos. Nittos work well in dry AND rainy conditions.
When you start making even more power you roll around on street legal ET Streets or Hoosier QTP's.
They are in deed street tires.
Nobody races on khumo's or other crap unless you like to lose.

Maybe you should change the challenge to all season tire challenge, people seem to be pretty damn confused.

Cp I meant that I don't know if my "car runs a 14.8 on the street" (see top post by Stefan), because I'm not racing on the street. I could care less what it runs on the street, I'd prefer to save it for the track.
And whether I lug 100 lbs of racing tires to the track, or just stick with the street tires, or bolt up the racing tires at home, I'll make a note in my sig, but not exactly test things out in traffic.
It promotes street racing if you're "testing" things on the street, regardless of tire. Not if you're testing a street tire at the track. Heck, that would save me a few bucks. i dont see how a 12 second car is not good just because you run on slicks or drag radials. a 12 sec. car is a 12 sec. car. just because u put them on radials and they cant hook doesnt mean the car doesnt have the ability to run 12's. any car with that much hp isnt gonna hook on regular radials. if i have that much hp, and anyone in their right mind with that much hp, is gonna run on some kind of slick or drag radial. whats the point of showing ur dyno sheet and saying i have 400 ponys, and then ur time slip showing a 14 or something bad. everyone knows slick improve ur time substantially, and that it varys how much slicks will improve ur car. you cant say this guy gained a second on slicks and expect your car to gain a second on slics. there are just to many variables.1995 black firebird,t-tops,3.4L M5 Comp cam, gutted cat,Cold Air,80 series flowmaster, limited slip rear end with 3.42 gear, Hurst Billet Plus, 17\" American Racin Torq Thrust II

your making it seem to me like you think using a drag tire is cheating or something to get lower ET's.
if thats the case, then wouldnt adding mods to your car and whatnot be cheating as well?

Why do you guys see this as such a difficult challenge?
Some common races...
-on the bottle.
-off the bottle(even if you have nitrous hooked up)
-Internally stock motor(stock heads/cam)
-stock(factory stock to the paper filter)
-on normal street tires.
ITs wierd how people get upset about only using street tires, but they think taking the drivebelt off is cheating... I can take a drivebelt on and off twice faster then you can change one tire with an air gun. And I don't have to chain anything to a fence or leave something on a trailer, or with friends to watch over.
As for shane being in the 14s on regular rubber... I doubt that I honestly still think he woudl be in the high 12s, at least low 13s.
James I don't know I have never seen him launch, but his car is set up for alot of launch.

Hmmmmm, I pull 1.58 60's and you WANT me to try a street tire???
I'd sh*t myself!
Well, when I had a stock converter, 120 dry kit nitrous, 2.5 exhaust and a lot less mods I went 13.4 at 104 on a michelin XGT V 255 50 16
Taking that same 13.4 set up and adding a nitto 245 50 16 drag radial and a kenne bell boost a pump got me to a 12.8
Off hand my BF drag radials along w/ a converter, wet kit, suspension exhaust etc got me to mid 12's spinning to 1.7's
Currently I SPIN to a 1.58 60 foot on a mickey thompson et street 26 X 10.5 X 16.
My car is ALL launch!
I honestly don't think it would be SAFE for me to put a street tire back on.
I run bf drag radials as my DAILY DRIVER tire and typically put a decent amount of miles on my et streets.
I run my bird on the street EXACTLY how I do on the track. The et street tire psi might be higher obviously.
Personally, I think I could get into the 12's on a street tire.
Do I want to try......... probably not due to my safety being jeapordized.
The ONLY time I have a STREET radial tire on the bird is when it is stored for the winter in the garage.Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6

I don't think it's feasable for James to run actual street tires. I mean 1.58 60ft spinning on slicks... That could be really nasty on street tires, I wouldn't advise even trying to use street tires on that car. I use street tires on my car, mainly because it doesn't have enough power to really benefit from using DR's or Slicks.2000 Firebird.
