• My 60' sucks. please analyze my slip

I posted this before but my thread got hijacked.
I upgraded from an open 3.08 to 3.42 with Zexel and have had it for about 3 weeks now. I am still getting the same damn times as before. I ran this past Friday and this was my best time:
The weather did suck. It was 80* with humidity at 65% and rising rapidly and pressure at 29.76 and holding steady. Engine temp was about 190*
R/T____.069 <-- new best
60'____2.452
330'___6.714
1/8____10.247
mph____70.26
1/4____15.897
mph____86.46

I had another fellow f-body member try lauching it and he got about the same 60' with 2.4!!??!!
I have a stock torque converter and I have been launching at around 1200 to 1600 with no wheel spin whatsoever. I am on drag radials with 21psi. Spark plugs are old and will be changed soon.
Oil has been changed and I removed the air filter during passes.

Are the rest of the times decent? I mean a speed of 70.26 at the 1/8 mile mark I was told is pretty good with a time of 10.24.

Any ideas of what may be going on?

Those times aren't ridiculous.
I'd increase the psi a bit if you're not spinning at all...it will affect your top end.

Also, do a tuneup, that MPH is definitely 2-4 too low.

I did the same swap as you and improve 2 tenths and 2 mph after gears, but i'm spinning now :(

Those 17"'s are killing you. Other than that, you're spot on for a stockish, inexperienced driver

(note: I mean that in the nicest manner. Eric (mustangeater) can put a stock 3.8 to a 14.3 or so, because he has like 500 slips. You cannot ...)

Good luck, and keep going back! Takes practice, practice, practice.

Aren't you launching a little low? Stall it has high as it will go, and are you doing burnouts on those drag radials? They might hook less than a street tire if not burned out.

And I'd say that the MPH matches the ET -- I ran 89.97 @ 15.3 (2.2) NA.

So you think that is a problem?

What is the stall on a stock TQ? Also I was up at around 2000 and I could feel the brakes start giving.

I am doing a burnout in the water box for a good 3-5 sec before each run.

17" chrome are big and heavy, and thus hard to get spinning.

Stall as high as you can without spinning

If your'e not spinning, i'd say your burnouts are fine :D

Hay Evan, I thought the zr1's were lighter that your stockers? And I also drove your car that night and got a 2.4 60. I don’t think it’s the rims slowing you down, you were getting much better 60’s before the lsd and 3.42’s, even with the zr1’s.

how many miles do you have on that beast? ever changed the plug wires, plugs, or coil packs? that can cause some bogging... so i guess my next question is: do you feel like the car is bogging or sputtering off the line?

I dont know what to tell ya man. My car is a Y87 automatic. My best times go like this (1/8 mile):
60' 2.190 (street tires @ 28 psi)
330' 6.489 (I think, can't find the slip)
1/8 ET 10.035
1/8 MPH 69.670

The highest mph I've trapped is 70.17 at our track. My average ET runs 10.18-10.30. Last time out, I ran 10.3 all night long, .5 seconds faster than the closest V6 Camaro there, and 1 whole second quicker than the other one there. Your times seem close enough to mine. We don't have a 1/4 around here, so g-tech tells me I run 15.41 @ 90.1 mph, I was running with an SES light and cracked up/rattling cat. Take those numbers for what they're worth.

I just turned 100,000 miles that Friday and no I have not changed anything as far as spark plugs, coil packs, or wires. I does not seem to be bogging at the line and it definately is not sputtering.
I am thinking it may be something internaly with the engine. Would a transmission fluid change help or a readiator flush?

maybe a tranny flush; it's about time for that anyway... radiator won't cause big problems, but you should probably flush that.

change your plugs and wires. i can't think of any way to really test the coils except to run a continuity check on them, which won't necessarily show a weak coil. those circuits break down when there is high voltage going through them, not a volt or whatever your multimeter puts out.

but even if you decide to change your coils, wires, and plugs, it won't cost any more than $100. cheap insurance if you ask me, since all my stuff went out at 75,000 and again last week.

Hmmm, new plugs, coils and wires. Maybe I need to look into this.

There's nothing really "wrong" with your times.

What's the SLP suspension package? Give specifics. And a fair amount of power is trapped in that Flowmaster muffler, if that's all you have for exhaust, it's not really worth much. Keep in mind that a lot of the guys running exhausts have full catbacks, headers, etc. I say this as an experienced guy, as I used to run the SLP T/O TA V8 muffler only, and didn't gain much if anything from it, other than a deeper sound.

Actually the muffler was our very first mod. She wanted a deeper sound from her car so we just decided to get the muffler only.
Then I discovered this message board and am now kicking myself in the butt. LOL

Did you get any programming done to the car after your gear swap? My car was SLOW after 3.08->3.42 until I got Wester's programming. It sounded like it was revving like crazy but just not going anywhere.

That could be your issue.

With my Wester's programming my car feels fast, still have to take it to the track to get numbers.

My best with 3.08's and an open diffy, and CAI is:
60': 2.3xx (can't remember the exact numbers)
1/8: 10.165
mph: 69.92
SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat. Best Time: 9.909@71.58 (1/8 mile)
