btw... he managed a 1.9 60' goal I never managed to make in that car, and he forgot to mention he swapped the lt1 for an ls1 driveshaft...

he is retiring it from the strip for now.

I had a sneaking suspicion that Eric was going to post this......

let me set the record straight. I own his old car, I am a mechanic and racer of over 25 years. Eric is right, I am not a "V6er", but I do have a passion for the turbo 3.8s ala GN. mine happens to run mid to low tens depending on fuel.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly people want to punch holes in things that they don't wish to see. The only reason I even ran this car at the track is purely out of curiosity. 15 second quarter mile times makes me feel like I could be eating lunch during the run when I'm are accustomed to 10s. As far as Rice? HA! you guys crack me up. There is something to the Z28 badges though.... They will stay! Modified to Z26 though. The motor is ready, a turbo 3.8 with forged internals, a block girdle, roller cam, etc. good for roughly 680 lbs of torque. Enough to wipe the smile off the face of most anyone. As far as a NA record? I still have to doubt it. The car could still use headers, massive headwork, etc. and it's just not worth it. There has to be people out there that are throwing a ton of dough at these motors with all the bolt ons and someone has to be quicker. If this is a record I would be suprised as hell.

Eric, the driveshaft is a 1LE from my 97 WS6, not an LS1. I borrowed a few things off that to make this possible.

The clutch, while still great for a streeter, won't hold enough to get any more out of it. It's not a drag car at this point, it's a cruiser. When the new powertrain goes in, old blue should be a 9.90 car with no roll cage, stock interior, will look just like the picture and will be ready to carve up some street competition. I 'm not sure at this point if the chassis will be stiff enough without a cage, but I'm going to find out. I intended this to be a street warrior, not a strip queen.

I would hope that people can take the car for what it is and realize I'm considerably older than what you might expect and I'm not in this for the glory, just the love of cars. No flames intended, just some of you guys crack me up.

680 lbs of torque, I hope you got a 12 bolt rear ready for that. And you WILL be neededing some more chassis stiffening, otherwise you're going to twist that subframe to **** after a couple hard launches. And I am not talking about just some subframe connectors..

I'm going to try some double diamonds first. Most likely I will need at least a hoop or 4 point. I'm hoping that because I will be using an automatic, the chassis won't twist like a pretzel. I wouldn't expect the stock rear to last. That will get swapped as well. At this point, I'm getting the trans together so that it will hold. That's the part that costs some dough.

No doubt. Which tranny are you going with? Going to keep it a manual or going to swap it over to an auto for the drag performance gains? If it were ME I'd probably build a 700R4 and have the ***** built and slap on a B&M dual gate shifter for it ;) With the right stall, clutch packs, and rebuild you should haul balls with a tranny like that! The entire GN powertrain will be used. The stock GN trans can be upgraded with billet parts to live in the high 9s in a full weight GN so with a little lightweight 3100 lb target weight, it should be no problem. An automatic is a must as the thrust design of the older 3.8s don't like manual trannies. In all actuality, the biggest PITA is going to be the electronics.

How about a turbo 400? My dad built the one in the race car he used to tune, it's been about a year now with no repairs. Last I heard the car was running 8.80s, don't know if its any faster now or not.

The turbo 400 can be made to fit on our V6s too..

Too bad it's only three gears and I don't feel like messing with a gear venders overdrive unit. That 4th gear does wonders for cruising.

I would love that happen! Personally, I feel that with ported heads, headers along with the rest of the chassis stuff would get these cars into the high 14s, but it's goona take everything to be just right.
