• new have 1/4 mile????

I have a 96 3.8 camaro 5 speed with a flowmaster cat back. I was wondering what the this car would run providing the driver was good? abd what mods would it take to get the car to run mid to low 14's? I am wondering because I am deciding wif i should modify this or buy another car(90-91 mustang LX 5.0)? I want a daily driver that runs mid to low 14's that wont cost a fortune to get it there. any help would be great thanks.

Just get the mustang. If you want to keep this car do some searching and researching on your own. Otherwise your too lazy to get your car to 14s and buy the mustang.

Edit: At the top of the page there is a section we like to called TIMESLIPS. Im amazed you found this section of the forum without seeing that...

Okay okay, stop bashing the noob.
With a 96 3.8 camaro M5 you first must know what it runs now. probably runs anywhere from 15.2 to 15.5. You may be amazed what it runs. If you want your car to run low to mid 14's, you will need to add all the basic bolt on mods first. (headers, high flow cat, intake, electrical) Then go with 50-75 shot of nitrous. you will run low to mid 14's with that.
But ReodDai did say it best, do some searches first. You will be amazed what you can find on this board. Lots of good info.

Prolly runs anywhere from 15.2-16.8 lol Too many factors to even give him a decent quote.

You can run mid to low 14's with those mods.

trying to be on the optimistic side with a low to mid 15's rather than the pesimistic side with a low 16's. You are right though, too many factors.

Well put it this way. Crappy night at the track I ran 15.9(grannyshifting) with muffler, lid and filter. Even crapper track and crapper night with my current mods I pulled 15.8(grannyshifting) 15.6(powershifting). Like I said just too many factors involved.

thanks for all the positive replies. why are these cars so slow? I am not trying to pic a fight but the have 200hp and 225ft lbs. and it takes all those mods to run mid 14's? I really like my car but it seems it should be faster. probably the weight. thanks again I will research a bit. great site by the way.

Its a v8 car with 2 less cylinders. Although out of the n/a v6's it's decently fast.

if your complaining about your 3.8 being so slow, go buy a 3.4 ;) j/k guys. just get the mustang. you dont really seem to apreciate what you have nor are you willing to put in the wrench time to get somewhere

Mid 14's require 250-ish hp, that's an extra 50 from what they have stock.

it's not that I dont want to put in the wrench time its just I dont understand why they dont respond to improvments. all the boltons and a cam to run mid 14's heck a 4 banger could probably do that. I am not trying to argue.but maybe I dont appreciate what I got? please tell me what I have? what do you like about these cars? what makes you drive one? I really do like this car and want to improve it. thanks.

We sadly don't have the same aftermarket as the 4bangers lol. My post about my horsepower vs my time is a little biast tho lol. I'm also at a track that SUCKS high elevation, high DA, low traction. My point was more that your time is relative to what you can do , what condition your car is in and the track your going to be running it at. Go to your local track and run the car then come back and tell us your numbers. We can probably help you get 14s from there. First we have to know what exactly the car can do in your area with you driving.

What I like about the car is its not the v8. Its a v6 but alot of people still think its an eight ;) Makes you feel good when you have to pop the hood and shove a guys head under it to get him to believe its a six.

the way my car sits now is mid 14's @94-95mph
probably not the cheapest way like seppos list cuz that will get you there for sure. but it is possible on a all bolt-on 5spd. car.
