• Drag racing my daily driver

Is it good for my car to race it every weekend sometimes two days in a row? My Firebird is my daily driver and my husband wants to race it hard every weekend at the local drag strip. He wants to get into the points race with my car. Is that smart to do with a daily driver?

Yup I do it =) Just be prepared to fix something if it breaks.

I made over 100 passes on my car one year, starting at about 14,000 and going till ~24,000 miles.

made probably 50 passes over the next two years...

so after 150 passes, and 68,000 miles...my car never grinded a gear (that i didn't miss lol), burnt nor leaked a drop of oil, and got 33mpg highway, 26mpg combined city/highway.

      I'll miss her... :(

I make 30-35 passes in one day. The track I go to is empty enough for me to hotlap all day long.

          ITs not too bad...

but you will be gong through tires quicker...

I had 350+ passes on my old car. And maybe 40 passes on my current car.

The wear and tear is going to be even greater.

I know this guy who drives a 95 or 96 LT1 Camaro. He drags it 4 or 5 times a month. His repair bills are enormous.

Plus when I test drove his car. It is slow. The car feels even slower than a V6. It had a no power claiming up hills and the tranny slips really bad.

If you want to keep your bird healthy for a long, just drive it normal. But, if your gonna play, you better be ready to pay.

              Drive it normal.

Drag racing shortens the life on ALL related components.

My bird has had ungodly amounts of parts replaced and it has over 1100 runs down the 1/4 mile.

My car is permanently twisted :(

Don't drag your daily driver, even though I do

I think its better to say don't "hardcore" drag your dialy driver...

you have a highly modified car compared to a guy I assume is going to be bracket racing...

My cars have all been run and run hard, and done nothing but gotten faster.

Well it looks like the consensus is, it's okay to drag the daily driver. See honey, I told you
Firebirdchick98 is scared that I will "blow up" her car. I think she is just jealous
I am so hooked on bracket racing now that I think I am going to join the IHRA points program in 2005 at our local track.

I love my car and I want it to last a long time. I think if you drag race it a lot it wont last very long. Plus we dont have the money to fix it if it breaks at the track. I think we should get a daily driver if you are going to get into IHRA points.

You never know how long your transmission, rear end, and engine will take the abuse. I bought my Camaro with 42,000 miles on it and it after about 5,000 miles my transmission went out and about 2,000 miles after that my rear end went out. For those first thousand miles I had my car I really wasn't rough. So you really don't know. Just take care of your F Body

                            The consensus is one view.

I am against the consensus especially because this would be in a IHRA points race season.

LOTS of runs down the 1/4.

Lots of wear and tear on ALL components.

                            But, I've said my peace

Daily drivers are for daily driving. It's ok to race once in a while, but unless you have the time, money and another car to drive (when that one is in the shop needing repairs), it just makes more sense to either make it a drag car or get another car for daily driving... other factors come into play obviously. It's your car though...so do what you want.
