    POOPPYYY

I pulled up next to a gt Stang and some little punk kid was sitting behind the wheel. I asked him what year he, said 98. It was a stick but i said what they hey, lets go. I was pumped and figured I had a pretty good shot. It started out good and I had him off the line until about 20 when he caught up, when he shifted into second i pulled ahead for a little then he caught backup to me at about 35 and passed me. When my auto shifted into second at 40 he was about his back bumper to my front end. Im like ****......I kept going to about 70 and he had me by about 1 1/2 car lengths

wtf happened i thought 98+ v6s could hang with pre 99 gt stangs...???

he obviously had exhaust but i also have full cat back system and intake and 160degree thermo.....and still i lost

    what the heck happened?????

Ok you have a flowmaster gimp catback, a K&N "CAI" and a thermo with no tuning. So you have half your exhaust done (if you call flowmaster performance), and a new half decent intake. Also you drive an automatic, they can be faster then manuals but you start out with a disadvantage. So you have crappy gears, a 1800 stall, and stock shifting.

$600 is nothing when your talking about modding a car man. You have something. Against your car without the mods you're probably faster. Don't give up hope but don't think because you put a different intake on, put a thermo in (without even tuning the fans to turn on sooner), and replace part of your exhaust that you will gain a whole lot.

I agree, $600 is VERY lightly modded, I have over $2K in my car and I still consider it lightly modded. I would not have even expected to win that race.

By the way, this needs to be in the Kill Stories section, not drag racing. There are ALWAYS posts in kill stories, its a pretty packed forum.

what do i do to tune my fan to turn on earlier???

what must i do to my gears, stall and stock shifting to make those better??

and i know that i need headers but they are expensive and i dont got the money for that right now.

also how can autos be faster then the manuals???

              1. Get programming of some kind , talk to Matt from TSP about it in our sponser section if you need to.

              2. Lower gears (higher number 3.42s or so) Different torque converter with higher stall, shift kit if you want one. TSP tunning would once again help you in this department.

              3. To complete your exhaust you need headers and a new cat.

              4. Eventually the autos can be made to shift faster, harder and much easier to launch.

emjlr3, is sounds like you need to find and use the search feature of the site. Search on each of the subjects you asked about and then get more specific questions. That is the best way to get all the info you need.

A camaro with the same mods as a pre99 gt 5-speed will be close or lose.
They start with more power and lots more torque and don't they weigh less? (I dunno about the last one)
