  • GREAT night at the track

I was pretty bummed after my last track outing when I ran between 15.86-15.99 on 17" rims but tonight was a lot better. I ran with my 16" rims, 40 psi front and 30 rear. 1/4 tank of gas. Weather was very hot to start, and this track is ALWAYS really windy and humid. Here we go:

    1st run (Trial) Temp: 91 Humid: 39
    R/T: .497
    60': 2.329
    1/8: 10.151
    MPH: 69.60
    1/4: 15.848
    MPH: 85.29
Lost to a RSX Type-S that ran a 15.63, close race

    2nd run (Round 1) Temp: 87 Humid: 43
    Dial: 15.69
    R/T: .430
    60': 2.373
    1/8: 10.163
    MPH: 69.98
    1/4: 15.821
    MPH: 85.94
Beat an older Celica by MOV of .7426

    3rd run (Round 2) Temp: 81 Humid: 50
    Dial: 15.69
    R/T: .239
    60': 2.317 (new best)
    1/8: 9.995 (was a new best)
MPH: 70.77 (was a new best)
    1/4: 15.597 (was a new best)
MPH: 86.87 (was a new best)
Got the win over a Lancer Evolution even though I broke out since he redlighted

    4th run (Round 3) Temp: 79 Humid: 53
    Dial: 15.40
    R/T: .125
    60': 2.365
    1/8: 10.063
MPH: 70.91 (was a new best)
    1/4: 15.644
MPH: 87.37 (was a new best)
Beat a Chevy Lumina that redlighted

    5th run (Round 4) Temp: 77 Humid: 57
    Dial: 15.50 (stupid)
    R/T: .177
    60': 2.320
    1/8: 9.933 (new best)
    MPH: 71.67 (new best)
    1/4: 15.462 (new best)
    MPH: 88.05 (new best)
Lost via breakout by .04 - if I hadn't changed my dial-in I would have won.

So I got a new best of 15.46 @ 88 MPH. I'm pretty happy with the improvements I made tonight. It really made a difference when the sun went down and temps cooled off a bit. Three tenths and 2.3 MPH increase from the tuning so far. Not bad at all. If I keep practicing I might see low 15's, high 14's come the fall. Still gotta find a way to improve those 60 foots though!

Oh yeah and just to compare, I was watching some of the action between runs and I saw at least 6 LS1's run between 14.0-14.5, an LT1 TA that went 15.20, another 3.8 Camaro RS went 16.8 basically stock, and some 99+ Stang GT's running 14.7-15.0's. If that tells you anything about the track conditions.

Yeah but my 60 foots are STILL killing me. I tried launching differently this time, around 15-1600, then I would go about 3/4 throttle off the line to minimize spin and then go WOT once the tires stop spinning. It worked slightly better but 2.3 60's are still not very good for a 3.42/LSD car. Maybe it's my tires? They are only 225 wide. Maybe I need to get some 245 or 255 if it will drop that 60 foot. What else can I do?
