  • allthegoodnames and hawgs...i sort of made a plan to tune based on the feedback that i got from everyone...just because i say "this is what i'll do" doesnt mean i wasnt listening...possible causes for my problem seem to be fuel shortage/low psi, ignition timing retard, injectors, or tuning with gauges/software...these are all things that im doing...so i dont see where i didnt listen...if i wasnt going to listen...i wouldnt bother posting...right now i have a MAFT+, and a/f ratio and fuel psi gauges on the way...i plan to use those to tune till i can get hp tuners

    prostockjohn...thanks for your posts...im actually looking into 36lb injectors right now to be able to handle the nitrous on top of the blower and would go up from there if i have to...before i make any mods to the actual engine though i just want to see what my compression test results are tonight

    • to everyone ...like i was saying before...i make decisions about how im going to tune/modify...i dont want to come across wrong...i make these decisions based on the feedback that i get from everyone helping me and those that have more experience in an issue that i am asking about...that is why..despite the actions of a few members..i decided to stay with this site...in order to improve my times and gain more knowledge i NEED to be able to come to a place where i can pick the brains of people that have more experience...so i hope that everybody knows that i take every post in consideration and that i appreciate them all very much and am greatful to all those who share their knowledge with me so that i can continue to progress

        OK...

        you need F*(#&@#$ tuning.. no way around it.. this moter.. or the next one.. both need tuning.. and ALOT.. not maft.. you are so beyond maft its not even funny

        NOW..

        will a narrow band AF guage help you tune.. NO
        will a fuel pressure guage help you tune.. NO

        is MAFT a waste of time.. yes

        to "TUNE" you will need to do a few things.
        1) get hp tuners
        2) get access to a wideband o2 sensor.. either an incar unit.. or on a dyno..

        IMHO go incar.. you will need it..

        this is what you NEEED to do.. if you plan on having this motor or the next one last more then a handfull of passes..

        and like shirl said.. tune the blower first.. dont jsut go buying more **** and adding on stuff.. it dosent work that way.. EX dont buy injectors yet!!
        yes you need them.. but oyu need to figure out your fuel demands/needs first.. buying huge injecros for no reason is ignorent.. and will make your car run ****ty.. even with tuning..


        anyway.. try not to f-anything up while i am gone..

        • dude...relax...thats what im doing...tuning the SC first...once thats golden...THEN i want to tune the nitrous to break into the 12s ...my thoughts are just that the SC is probably ok and most of my tuning will be for nitrous...i dont have all the money for those things right now...so im just trying to play it safe in the mean time...but yes those are my plans...to get some really good tuning equipment and do the blower first...then move on to nitrous...relax man...im listening...i just cant do all that stuff right away cuz i dont have the $$$ right now...the car seems to run fine with the blower...so im going to hook up a fuel gauge and stuff to confirm that...then i'll sit and play it safe...run with just that...or try like..a 50 shot...i still need the results of my compression test tonight too...but some heavy tuning is defintely on the way...just need a paycheck first man lol

              • Great, glad your getting it. But please don't assume that since the car 'seems' to run fine that the tuning is fine with the blower. I've been programming cars for a while and I can tell you that there is a huge difference in the timing and fuel tables between the 3800 series 2 in the firebird and 3800 series 2 in the GTP with the SC. You will need to get that tuned otherwise the tuning w/ the nitrous will not be as effective. If you think it runs fine now, just wait til you get it tuned.

                • definitely...i've heard the stories of guys adding 50 horses...sometimes even more...just by having it dyno tuned...it'll be great to have hp tuners...i'll probably order it in a few weeks or so...but when i say running fine...i dont mean up to its full potential...i definitely think that car has more power hidden away in it...i just mean that while there may be some compression loss...i dont think that theres any major engine damage..but i guess i'll find out for sure tonight

                          • Good lord Man! Why are you even going to bother??????? If you are melting plugs, YOURE MOTOR IS SCREWD. Period, plain and simple. Insted of trying to get it
                            "tuned" and all that BS, you ned to rip that POS apart and take note of all the damage you did. THEN, once you learn a few things about mixing poweradders, BUILD a motor to handle boost and nitrous. I don't know why the heck you thought you could just fly into running the mods that you have... Now, this is what you're gonna need (minimal, general stuff):
                            A modified fuel system, this includes larger injectors, FMU and the pump which you already have.
                            Some frickin pistons (cause the ones you have now are gone!), low compression, forged aluminum.
                            An ignition system to fire off the mix, along with some nice cold plugs (not that platinum crap)
                            Another sloenoid, a fuel one (why your running dry spray with boost, Only the lord knows....).
                            AN ATTENTION span, I don't think your a bad guy, but you need to listen to what people say.
                            Once you have the motor rebuilt of a new one with the right buildup installed, you need some SERIOUS tuning, BEFORE you EVER drive the car! I realize it's nice to be rich or whatever, and "you don't care what ahppens to a motor", but wake up. Take all this money you apperently have and buy a little daily driver so you ain't walking cause of stupidity. Good luck, do it right and you'll have a clean running car capable of mid 12 sec runs. Do it wrong and people will STILL make fun of you.
                            MODS:<br />3.4,Crower cam, K-motion valvesprings, Heddman Longtubes, BBK AFPR, Accel Coil, 36mm/23mm Sways, Boxed LCAs/Panhard bar, Mutant Nitrous wet kit, Mr. Gasket Cutout, 10.02 1/8 mile at 67.2 mph UNTUNNED no spray

                            • im running mid to high 13s on a stock motor...i dont think thats so bad with no tuning and an open 3.08 ...im not exactly sure i burnt out the plugs just because i was having misfires...the cars running pretty smooth...not to mention im obviously waiting for comression test results before i swap a motor...which didnt happen last night...just didnt have the time...im leavin the car for the day on tuesday...need a new tranny mount too

                                When your car "runs a 14.7 NA" and then you add 6PSI and 85 shot on top of it and run a 13.999... thats pretty bad.
