• first-ever runs at the strip!

Well, I finally got down to the track...good old Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. James and I went for the GM EFI Series. this was my first time EVER at the strip, i was very excited. test and tune was around 9:30ish. My car is A4, open differential, 3.08s, and weighed in @ 3642 lbs. My first run yielded the following:

R/T .686
60' 2.173
330 6.470
1/8 10.066
1/8 MPH 68.45
1000 13.175
1/4 15.837
1/4 MPH 84.45

it was my best run of the day. i ran the car 6 more times during the test and tune, just to get some practice in. my 4th run was:

R/T .177
60' 2.195
330 6.489
1/8 10.08
1/8 MPH 68.52
1000 13.190
1/4 15.853
1/4 MPH 84.42

my best R/T of the day was on my 6th run, i cut a .019.
The bracket eliminations began around 11:30, i think. My first run was against a Grand Prix GTP, he dialed in at 14.10. I dialed in at 15.80, playing it safe. here's how it went:

Me GTP
R/T .596 .613
60' 2.186 2.349
330 6.500 6.247
1/8 10.103 9.447
MPH 68.31 77.19
1000 13.224 12.183
1/4 15.904 14.510
MPH 83.72 96.53

I won! .104 off my dial-in, he was .410 off. it feels good to be a first-round winner :D
In the 2nd round, i took on James James dialed in at 14.42. Here's how it went:

Me James
R/T .264 .311
60' 2.224 2.032
330 6.551 5.940
1/8 10.162 9.225
MPH 68.09 74.92
1000 13.291 12.078
1/4 15.976 14.524
MPH 83.64 91.63

i was .176 over my dial-in, James was only .104 over. he beat me by 7 hundreths of a second! James then lost a close race in the third round to an Oldsmobile 442, so we called it a day. I wasn't shocked by my times, i'd been hoping for lower, but the temperature played a big part in it. I can't wait for October to roll around, I should be able to run mid 15's.

thanks....trophies are always nice :D I don't have much space left on my trophy shelf though...looks like I'll need a bigger one. I also got one of those nice "Class Winner" stickers to put on my car. hope to collect a few more of those.

I plan on going again this weekend...i told my friend (he's got an '87 IROC) all about it and he really wants to go now.

EDIT: I also wanna remove some dead weight from the car before i go down. passenger seat, backseat, spare and jack (the last two will be removed at the track, so i'll have them for the ride down). I also plan on having a 1/2 to a 1/4 tank of gas when i run again. i had about 3/4 full tank on saturday, plus all the seats and the spare and jack. i calculated how much the car SHOULD weigh, assuming the gas tank is 3/4 full. I weighed my car, with me in it, it was 3642 lbs. with the seats and spare/jack removed, it should weigh 3557 lbs, with me in the car. i haven't figured out how much it will weigh with a 1/2 or a 1/4 tanks of gas.

that should definitely make a difference...especially the 1/4 tank of gas...i always race with a 1/4 tank or less...saturday i was racing with a 1/8 tank...i mean...just think how much 20 GALLONS or so of gas weighs...just watch out for wheel spin

i'll try to practice on the street before i go, i tried different RPMs before this saturday. I ONLY do that on the local highway (has traffic lights) near me. 1500 RPMs seems to work best. I also have to find something to replace the crappy intake ducting i have now. it keeps falling apart on me every couple weeks or so. I need something stronger, but just as flexible.

yeah thats what i do...either go to a highway or this other dead road near me...just watch for cops..hehe...i think they can still get you for "unsafe start" or something even if you dont speed...as far as the ducting...you should try what i use for my ram air setup...its a hose made by Mighty Flow ...i forget the part# though...but if you go to www.suncoastcreations.com and give them a call they'll be able to tell you...thats what i have running from my ram air box to the SC intake...its strong and flexible...never really had a problem with it...you might just need to get a couple hose clamps to make sure its on tight

i've got hose clamps. the reason it needs to be flexible is because i've got an SLP airlid, which is supposed to go on an LS1 f-body. they don't make V6 lids. the outlet is in the center, and the throttle body is off to the right. so, the ducting needs to be able to make a bend in a tight space. i'll check out SCC's site.

yup...thats exactly how mine is...the ram air box was really made for an LS1 so i know exactly what you mean...the mighty flow hose still worked fine when i just had it go from the box to the intake so it should do the job
