• 3.08 to 3.42

ive gotten the gears in the mail a new positrac system for my 3.08 camaro with an A4.
My friend has a 2004 GTI VR6 6 Spd. and his best ever is 15.4 and an avg. of 15.8 will be able to smack him if i stall properly? Ive got slp ram air, k&n, whisper lid, Magnaflow hi flow cat, Jet PCM... with the 3.08s I run 16.02 without stalling it (break and gas at launch).

I also noticed that after getting the mods i listed above i didnt gain too much time.. will they be noticable after i get the gears?

How would I tune the ECU to get the shift points right?

gears are definately noticable, even a smallish step like you have planned.
look around to see if anyone near you has HPTuners. correcting the speedo and shift points for the new gears is easy with the software.

I have done the smae thing, went from 3.08 to 3.42 with LSD. My times with the 3.08 was anywhere from 16.13 to 15.85. after the swap I diod not notice any difference in the times, but after my car "got used" to the gears I have been running consistant 15.8x. with the tuning i now run 15.7x.
DO NOT RACE UNTIL YOU HAVE YOUR COMPUTER PROGRAMED FOR THE NEW GEARS.

I think your best times will be high 15 sec. I would not think you will run a 15.4. Keep practicing and get drag tires. Thay will help out alot.

I went from 15.8s to 15.6s with my gears. Not what i was hoping but it was a more fun car to drive for sure.

About flashing your PCM to show the new gears:

most dealerships are VERY hesitant about doing that. They think it will void your warrenty or mess up your emission control which is a federal law. This is all bogus but none the less, dealerships will not do that. You will be lucky to find a dealership that will flash your PCM to show your new gears. Find a VIN number from a 98-00 V6 with a Y87 package and just call around to local dealerships.

BlackBird...so basically you dont really need to have the PCM flashed?...i saw from your ealier post...your car will eventually just "get used" to the new gear ratio as far as times?...what about the speedo?

I meant that the car has to get used to the new computer AFTER the flash.
The PCM flash will help the speedo but there is a large debate on weather it will help the shift points or not. I did not notice any problems with shift points. But just to be on the safe side I had my PCM custom tuned by HPTuners.

^^^why not get the 3.73's? I mean youre pretty much going all out on everything else, so you might as well...you should just get some custom tuning after that instead of buying the HP tuners.

3.73 may be a good idea. You realy wont see a drastic change in the gas milage.

gears do not effect gas mileage as much as a lot of peopel seem to fear.
my old car i went from 2.73's to 3.54's adn only lost about 1 mpg. a friend of mine went from 2.73's to 3.73's adn didn't have any noticable change in his mileage.
for the first few tanks with teh new gears you will get bad mileage, but that is mostly because the car will feel so much better you will be playing with it more
