If you want to save money on those expensive catbacks, just run open Y pipe at the track and keep the exhaust stock. I used to remove mine before every track day. You can always get a cut-out and not worry about the rest of the exhaust. Get an off road pipe flanged where the cat is at now. Get the cat flanged also and switch those two out whenever you want. Cut-out is like having a really cheap catback. Almost the same as running open Y, but without the weight savings.

nah i'd like to do it right, not just a quick-fix solution. if i get an exhaust, it's everything from the headers back.\'98 Camaro - SOLD
Best E/T: 15.489 @ 86.48 MPH
60\': 2.131
members.cardomain.com/skorpion317
1998 Saturn SL2
Official NJ Disturbance bracket racer

just to keep things in prespective for you , as it was already said your 60' can make or break your time. the exhaust is a great up-grade but no matter how much power you put down, if you dont hook and cant use that power it won't matter. I dropped .3 tenths in the 1/8 when I went with my converter and 3.73's wLSD, which was my largest drop in et with all the mods I've done, so gears/lsd and converter will definetly help, no matter what other mods you do.Msd wires,Summit coils,Cuctom CIA&longtubes 2.5inch w/side exit,Cam,Heads & Intake,30# injectors, reprogrammed computer,3400 edge Converter, 3.73\'s&LSD,Edlebrock torque arm, SLP LCA\'s,Jegs panhard bar,16 inch nittos Best ET 14.374 @94
Best 60\' 1.91

chassis should always be the first step. get the gears adn a good posi unit first and build the rest of your mods from there.
exhaust is helpful, but you will get more from gears alone than from a complete headers back exhaust.
convertor is next. there are a lot of ways to pick the right TC. i usually try to find one that will flair to at or just below my peak torque rpm. if you are getting good traction this will bring you out on the strongest part of the curve and give you the most initial acceleration. if you talk to any of the good companies having a dyno sheet handy and knowing teh weight of the car will help them a ton in recomending teh correct piece for your car.
good luck
