Talk about being dissapointed......
I did a ot of reading before I ever bought the car and figuered that C5 vettes were high 12 to low 13 second cars...
Well thats partially true. ( IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE RACING ON A 60 DEGREE NIGHT IN A MANUAL AND YOUR A GREAT DRIVER)
But that wasnt my case.... I had to buy an automatic cause my wife cant drive a stick. So I figuered Id still run a 13.2 or so...
Then only after Buying the car did I realize that I had just bought an automatic with 2.73 gears..
How hat one got past me Ill never know...
So I thought big deal it's still a vette.. Ill pull a 13.3 or so at the worst..
So I take it to the track for the first time and run about 7 or 8 times.
I WAS IN THE 14 FLAT TO 14.3 RANGE!!!!!!!!!!!
Then on my last run a pulled a 13.9 against this guy in a slightly modded C4 who pulled a 13.7!!!
Words cant describe how upset I was with a 13.9 in a C5 vette.
I was seriously gonna take it back to the dealership and try and get my freaken money back.
But I figuered that I should check on corvette forum and see if this was normal or not for an automatic C5 geared with 2.73's..
I checked and it wasnt. But they did give me some good tips.
They told me I shoud be running anywhere from a 13.3-13.6 in my vette depending on weather and conditions. They told me to race in 3 as opossed to D and to make sure the traction control was off
(two things I failed to do on my previous outing)
Well a 13.6 seemed like it would be gold at this point compared to averaging 14.1. But needless to say I thought dropping a half second by just doing these two things would be impossible. Eighter way it was worth a try... Another 13.9 or maybe even a 13.8 wouldnt be too bad.
So I went back to the track and to my surprise on my first run plled a 13.6!!!!!!! A full 3 tenth dropp from my best of 8 runs on my last outing.
I pulled a few more 13.6's and then let my friend try on the last one.
HE PULLED A 13.5 !!!!!
since then Ive pulled a lot OF 13.5'S but cant seem to do any better.
I still feel like the car is slow. I was hoping for high 12's honestly. But thats just not gonna happen..
Keep in mind that Z28's run around 14 flat at my track (when there stock) and that all this racing is going on in 82 degree weather here in hawaii.
Well I know most people dont care about what a C5 did at the track on this board but i like this board wayy better that any other board and it's still a chvey he he he he he.......
Ill post up if I ever eat that time stock...
BTW Im getting a dyno done on this coming Monday...
Ill ost the results
