• Dynoed my 04 a4 vett........

Talk about being dissapointed......

I did a ot of reading before I ever bought the car and figuered that C5 vettes were high 12 to low 13 second cars...

Well thats partially true. ( IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE RACING ON A 60 DEGREE NIGHT IN A MANUAL AND YOUR A GREAT DRIVER)

But that wasnt my case.... I had to buy an automatic cause my wife cant drive a stick. So I figuered Id still run a 13.2 or so...

Then only after Buying the car did I realize that I had just bought an automatic with 2.73 gears..

How hat one got past me Ill never know...

So I thought big deal it's still a vette.. Ill pull a 13.3 or so at the worst..

So I take it to the track for the first time and run about 7 or 8 times.

I WAS IN THE 14 FLAT TO 14.3 RANGE!!!!!!!!!!!

Then on my last run a pulled a 13.9 against this guy in a slightly modded C4 who pulled a 13.7!!!

Words cant describe how upset I was with a 13.9 in a C5 vette.

I was seriously gonna take it back to the dealership and try and get my freaken money back.

But I figuered that I should check on corvette forum and see if this was normal or not for an automatic C5 geared with 2.73's..

I checked and it wasnt. But they did give me some good tips.

They told me I shoud be running anywhere from a 13.3-13.6 in my vette depending on weather and conditions. They told me to race in 3 as opossed to D and to make sure the traction control was off
(two things I failed to do on my previous outing)

Well a 13.6 seemed like it would be gold at this point compared to averaging 14.1. But needless to say I thought dropping a half second by just doing these two things would be impossible. Eighter way it was worth a try... Another 13.9 or maybe even a 13.8 wouldnt be too bad.

So I went back to the track and to my surprise on my first run plled a 13.6!!!!!!! A full 3 tenth dropp from my best of 8 runs on my last outing.

I pulled a few more 13.6's and then let my friend try on the last one.

HE PULLED A 13.5 !!!!!

since then Ive pulled a lot OF 13.5'S but cant seem to do any better.

I still feel like the car is slow. I was hoping for high 12's honestly. But thats just not gonna happen..

Keep in mind that Z28's run around 14 flat at my track (when there stock) and that all this racing is going on in 82 degree weather here in hawaii.

Well I know most people dont care about what a C5 did at the track on this board but i like this board wayy better that any other board and it's still a chvey he he he he he.......

Ill post up if I ever eat that time stock...

BTW Im getting a dyno done on this coming Monday...

Ill ost the results

Stock C5s are not that quick, not sure where you got that mindset.

High 12s will not happen out of a stock C5... especially at a track where other LS1s are running 14 flats.

i would have said to my wife, if i had one, "I'm getting an M6, sorry." she can have her own car.

i'd also look into learning how to drive.

tHAT WAS ALL INFO I GOT OFF OF CORVETTE FORUM..

Im sure some people do lie about there times though.

Also motor trend did a vette vrs cobra and the ette pulled a 13.0... So I just took everyones word..

But They are fairly quick..... it I can pull a 13.5 with an automatic equipped with 2.73 in 80 degree weather...

than Im sure people really do pull low 13's in there manuals or atuos with 3.15's on 60 degree nghts..

im only 2 tenths away from pulling a low 13 (13.3)

Another guy on this board pulled a 13.3 in his stock auto..... probaly much better weather than I have here.

People post 13.1's all the time on corvette forum stock...With the ocassional 12.9.

yea but your defently right about my track. Z06's run high 12's low 13's here.

that wasn't brutal at all.

try to get some better gears too. 2.73's only help top speed and fuel economy (not at the same time).

Alot of the guys on corvette forum lie or stretch the truth. When they say it runs a 12.9 they mean one guy someone ran a 12.9 once on a stock c5. They don't mean that is anywhere near average or you'll have a chance in hell of doing it. Also if your friend got in the car and beat your best time straight off that should tell you something. Maybe its your fault and not the cars...

Also , traction control can demolish the speed of a v8 auto lol. Lets lay off the throttle during WOT! YA!!

You'll get better though. Have fun and happy racing.

Just joking with you man....

I know that wasnt brutal.

Yea im defiently gonna do some gears.

Just by going to some 3.42's I should be around a 13.3.

When the weather gets better here in the weather and I race in the low 70's Im hoping to dropp another tenth there as well.

So even without the gears I should hit a 13.4 just due to weather in a few months when it kools down some. im actualy hoping for a 13.3 if it ever gets down to 68 dgrees os so (very rare here in Hawaii)

But Im holding off on the gears for now.

my first step is gonna be a heads and cam package that Im doing in the next few weeks.

thats why Im getting a baseline dyno this monday.

Im hoping for 300 rwhp.

I still havent decided on the head/cam ackage as of yet.

The Z06 head/cam package is an eas choice but it only good for about 40 addittional rwhp.

I can do a patriots heads and Z06 cam that will be good for about 60 rwhp.

These are both
"mild" head/cam packages but the Z06 package should net me a 12.8-12.9 based on my current 13.5 and the patriot head/Z06 cam should net me a 12.6-12.7.

Of course with the addittion of 3.42 gears I will easilly be in the mid 12 range (very respectable for this track)

The only modds I can do our head/cam and gears...
I cant allow my dealership to see that I did any mdifications or they will void my 6 year warranty.

Thats also why Im only lokking to do mild head and cam packages.

There are head/cam packages that can easily give you another 80 rwhp. But the lope/idle will give the dealership a serious hint that somthing was altered.

Naa....There not fibbss...

you can look in any car mag and see that vettes run anywhere from 13.0-13.4 depending on driver strength of engine weather conditions..ect.

Mine just pulls 13.5 cause its a automatic with the basic low end 2.73 gears.

you can get automatics with 3.15 gears that are a tenth or so quicker than mine.

Then of course manuals are a little quicker as well compared to automatics.

Im not really complaining...

It's just that when you get a sports car you get it for the performance...

So naturaly you may read up on the car to see what it can do .

So you read how the book says your new car can do the quarter mile in 13 flat and you check out message boards and read how people run these great times stock...

It gets you all hyped up that your car will be a monster too.

You forget to take into account that you will be racing on a crappy track in florida or Hawaii or some other place where the weather is 85 degrees where you race and that all the times and magazines were from professional drivers and the times you read on your car site were from people who ran really well.

all the people who ran crappy times never even posted there times cause they want to wait till they do better. So you only read about the high 12 and low 13 stock cars.

Thats just the way it is.

But Im not complaining.... im doing alot better in this car that my v6 camaro.

Right now Im only 2 tenths behind what the normaly 2.73 equipped a4 can do..I can live with that.

In my maro I started off at 16.6 (wayy behind the normal 15.8 or so) and even after supercharging only made it to 15.1.

Laron, good to see you back on here. I hope things settled down with car problems and the medical stuff...

So the times weren't quite what you were expecting, but I bet it's still strong.

I pulled a 12.8 this past weekend. It was a nice feeling, even though it was slower than what I expected too.

Seriously, thats so-so times, but you either live in a crappy area, go to the worst track on the face of the earth, or need some serious driving lessons.

Your 98 camaro stock was pullin 16.1's, boosted was low 15's. Now the vette is in the 13.6 range? Damn man......

Nice car, so-so times, but get that baby runnin some lower times. Id just say practice, practice, practice. Dont keep moddin the thing until you get like 20 or so passes down the track. Learn to drive the car, then the mods will make even MORE of a difference.
