did you correct your computer to compensate for the gears?
teh late model computers are more sensitive to VSS input than teh previous(through 92) generation computers.
try to get some data logging done adn have a chip burned to the current sensor outputs. don't go with any off teh shelf POS either, find a company or person who will custom tune your car from actual data.
ther is no reason a set of gears would cost you trap speed. gears should in fact increase your trap speeds slightly because of the more efficiant use of teh power band.

just get used to the gears, shift just a touch early (to make up for tach lag), and run in good weather. you will make gains.

it took me at least 3 passes to get any decent gain, and when i did it was 4 tenths.

I am just curious as to what rpm you are shifting at? I have a LSD w/ 3.73s and I know that they are fine for my car. But its not stock. :(

By the way, no fix on the speedo. Once I get the money together, i would like to send my computer to fastchip or one of those other companys that can change the speedo and do other tricks for my engine

How are your launches? Are you spinning now coming off the line? Or are you hooking up and bogging the motor? Try altering your launch rpm's.

I tried different launchs. The 3.73s do get me off the line a lot quicker!!! But after thinking about it and reading a few suggestions on this forum, I think I have to find my torqu curve.

When the two times are compared, I am quicker at the start then I fall a tad short at the 1/8 and then lose it all after that. I have to play around with 3rd gear. I have to see how fast I can take it so I dont lose any speed.

I know what you mean. With 3.23's I was taking 3rd up to 5500 across the line. With 3.42's I'm into 4th well before the line. I think the 3.4 heads need opened up to make more power above 5000. Bigger cam and 1.6 rockers would help.

Screw fixing it, no offense but your car is likely not worth much, my 3.4L was not either it wasn't even worth bothering. It will not affect your power. Only tiem it affects our power is when its you have an auto and shifts the car early you have a 5-speed.

don't worry about the mph, it will drop, with the gears what you need to focus on is the 60' I believe anoterh guy(cannot remmever his name) he was close to me before I took the record was running 3.73s, and lsd, on street tires and stock motor but he managed a 1.8 60'.

I believe you can at least get a 1.9, I hit 2.0XX all day long in my 3.4L witht hte gears you should get better.

So my primary focus will be getting my 60' down to the 1.xxx

Cool. I agree, screw fixing the speedo, I'll make another trip out to the track and make some good things happen. Thanks for all the advice!

so your plan is to continue to run wiht a computer that doesn't know what is actually going on?
bad move man, if you want to make gains in any car you have to take care of all aspects of the mod, not jsut the parts taht are the easist.

From what I understand, the only actual "defect" (from gears --- besides the top end) is my Mph gage being off 13%. How does my RPMs become affected by the change in gears? Please let me know, I really dont want to be missing out on somthing that could help in the long run.

thanks

You can't judge mods by 1st time out at the track.

Many factors involved ( traction, D/A, tire psi, temp, humid, track prep etc)

Thank you very much for your input

Since I have done quit a bit to her, it would only make sense for me to get everything tuned to work with each other. The jetChip i have is junk, probably does not even work any more.

Custom is the way to go

Thanks again for the advice!
