• First time to track with 2000 M5 camaro

Sunday was my first time to track and I wasn't too dissapointed for my first time. My best of the day was a 16.022 @ 82.41 mph with a 2.535 60-foot time. I was spinning very badly the whole day because I have open diffy. I dropped the pressure in my passenger rear tire to 18 psi and it helped with the spinning but I still had to ride the clutch out of the whole to keep from spinning completely thru first and second gear. Does anyone have any tips I could use for my next time out? should i have took pressure out of both my rear tires to help w/ traction eventhough only one spins? With my mods I think I could have atleast hit high 15's. Also, I have fairly new 245/50/16 Kumho Ectas in the back and they gripped fairly well after i let the pressure out.

Just get the launch down... that seems to be the pitfall of most M5 drivers... that 60' should be around 2.2 given the 3.23 and open diff...

What track are you running at?

        2.22 60' for me led to a 15.2 time.
Just practice on launching and you should be hitting somewhere around 15.1 to 15.3

I'm running at Coastal Plains raceway in Jacksonville, NC. The track was supposedly not prepped well that day because they had a few modded SS's running high 13's and they even had fairly new ZO6 corvette that ran a 13.5 best time. I can't figure out how to launch this car though, the open diffy seems to being killing me. Even if i rev it to 2,000-2,500 RPM's and dump the clutch, I leave the line spinning all the way through first and part of second gear. I guess my next investment should be a limited slip and maybe some 3.42's. I wouldn't really want to run 3.73's because I want to keep my good gas mileage since its my daily driver. The track doesn't open till February so that'll give me time to get an intake, limited slip and maybe a SPEC stage 3 clutch since mines starting to go.

definitely..i just went from 3.08s to a posi 3.42..it makes a HUGE difference...on my open 3.08 i couldnt really launch any better than 1700rpms ..now i will have drag radials on too..so im planning on hooking right up at 2000rpms if not higher

Agree, your trap is hurting, it should be 90+.

What rpm are u shifting at?

My best trap speed was 88.90 but I ran a 16.4 that run. It was one of the runs where I spun mostly thru 1st and 2nd and just kept it pinned to the floor. Also, I was shifting at one notch before it turns red because it won't let me get into redline with the rev limiter. I am working on buying a new PCM at the moment so I can scan my car for that nasty random missfire ive been getting. After I get my whisper lid and ram air, I plan on getting that LSD as soon as possible.

Put the tires at ~26-34 psi, drive around the water box give them a quick spin clean a little dirt off them.

Rev it up to ~3000-3500, feather the clutch out slowly, and let it out kind of fast towards the end. Ride it out and shift just before rev limiter.

Definitely work on the luanch you can cut a 2.1, but 2.2 aren't too bad.

try that out... also make sure your car is in good tune, plugs wire, fuel filter, etc... maybe even clean up the TB and seafoam the car.

IF you are having misfires, drop all plans for mods and fix that first.

a stock car running perfect generally beats a modded car that runs like ***.
