maybe some of you remember my constant b*itching about how f-ed up my car is. i dont plan to take it to the track anytime soon. but i was just curious. i have an automatic tranny, and i was wondering... (im a newb)

    1) how do you do a burnout? put it in neutral, rev it up, then drop it into drive? hold down the brakes then hit the gas? ive never tried it before because i'm afraid i'll break my car!

    2) when im at the start, which of the above stated do i use to launch?

    never do a neutral slam ( a.k.a.) #1

when doing a burn out, hold the brakes and push on the gas until the tires start to spin

at the tree, hold the break all the way down and push the gas and hold the rpm stall you want to do then stomp on the gas and let go of the break upon wanting the launch

      1) What you are referenving is called a neutral drop... VERY BAD for the transmission and the rest of the drivetrain!!!

      NEVER do it!

You probably don't NEED to do a burn out... don't bother

      2) For a launch.... leave in overdrive.... launch off idle the first time.... with practice you will be able to do something called "stalling the converter"... this is done by placing one foot on the brake pedal and one foot slightly depresses the gas pedal to raise the engine rpm's..... this will bring the engine to a slightly higher power area for launch

Read up on the sticky....... good info here!

To do a burn out in an automatic you can do what is sometimes called "power braking". Put the car in drive and depress the breake pedal. With the brake held in, give the car some gas until the rear wheels start to spin. There ya go, your now doing a burnout. BUT, if you are running street tires I reccomend you go around the waterbox, and then turn your tires over once or so just to get the debris off.

Actually at most tracks it is considered rude for street tires to go through the water box. The racers running slicks will more than likely be annoyed.
