  • Launching with TC and street tires???

i was reading over Magnus's small journal that he has on his site..it looks like he had the TC before he got drag radials..he didnt get the drag radials until he started spraying..looks like he was stalling at like 3000 rpms and still took just about a 1/2 second off his time..which i assume means he was hooking up good..how do you/can you launch from that high on street tires!?

    Practice, Practice, Practice.

Get some wide soft street tires.

I could launch from about 3k on my nitto 555s, they were pretty sticky for a street tire.

that sawesome..cuz my smaller goal is to be able to run 12s without changing anything about the car (such as putting on the drag rims/tires) ..just driving in how i would on the street..so anyways..how wide are you talking?..i have 245s on all 4 right now..and will it be so much different when i hit the juice? ..my main traction issue was getting off the line..not when i hit the juice..but that was on the open 3.08 and different tires..the ones i have now are a little more sticky

these are the tires i have now..they hook pretty awesome for street tires..but i've only used them on the street..not the track yet..

It's interesting that this thread came up because I have a 3000 stall and street tires. I've been looking around to see what kind of street tires I can get next time around that will hook better because these tires just plain suck at the strip. I have Potenza RE950s. Any thoughts? I've seen so far that Nittos hook pretty well.

Per James in a post I made a while back in drag racing

"I can't name specific brands but look for traction A, temperature A and lowest treadwear rating (under 100) for stickiest"

Here is the actual thread on what 60' times people have cut on street tires.

I'm seriously looking at the Eagle GS-D3s, $153 per tire.

I couldn't hook on street tires, I had to use nitto drags then MT E/T streets.

Ok..... streets tires.... TRUE street tires... are NOT going to hook..... on a 3,000 stall converter..... unless EXTREME suspension/ weight relocation/ transfer is done.

                  It is VERY difficult!

I got down to a 13.4 on a TRUE street tire w/ stock verter, 3:42's... and 120 dry shot...

                  I ran michelin XGT V 255 50 16's in all four conners.

If you were going for..... bragging rights of fasest ET's on a TRUE street tire..... DO NOT get a high stall converter.

But.... if a high stall converter is already done... and you REALLY want to run quick ET's on a TRUE street tire then:

                  Traction A
                  Temperature A
                  Lowest tread wear possible

                  Go to www.tirerack.com
                  Enter size 255 50 16
Select "competition" for ULTIMATE STREET tire.... but... these are more road race tires.... and if you are eliminating drag radials... you should eliminate competition tires.

Select "max performance summer" for TRUE street tire.

                  Hope that helps.

i have a 3000 stall edge converter with yokohama avs es100's (275/40/17), and rear end suspension mods. hooks pretty well, leaves about 5 foot strips on the road. that was when i was runnin low 14's on a 75-shot. car will be a little different this season, surious to see how it will hook.

Well... as for the Edge converters.... very low STR's.... which means... very low torque multiplication factor....

With an edge....you might hook...but a real good converter.... nope
