• Help need quick reply

I'm going to the drags for the first time at Infineon Raceway. They have a ton of rules and I'm just wondering how strict they are. They require a battery tie-down and I'm not even sure I have one. did our cars come with them? Do you think they won't let me run without one? After all, I probably won't even be breaking 15 seconds. The other thing is they say in he rules that the car must have only factory tinting. I have the back window limo tinted and the sides are only 50%..not that dark.

    No clue on your track...

But all f-bodies came with a battery hold down tray, problem is 99.9999999999999999% of them broke from 93-2002.

Thanks for reminding me I gotta take care of mine for a race in gainesville. Or I could jsut leave the rope from my last autocross on there.

Take a look at battery....between back of battery and inner fender you will see a black tirangular piece of plastic with a bolt in it... that is the battery hold down.

As for tint..... should be only for front windows.... not rear.

Thanks for the replies. They didn't check anything at all. But I must say I am quite depressed now...LOL There was a headwind, tons of cars, and everyone was saying the track prep wasn't so great. Also, this was my first time ever racing at a drag strip. So enough BS.

First run lines up against a late model Chevy 1500 V8 with some mods. He ran a 15.5 to my 16.1 Pretty much everything went wrong for my first ever run... First, I couldn't see exactly where the hell to stop and I accidently crept past the staging lights...Not that far past though and I backed up and it was ok. Then, the run.

My R/T was .248 to his .051 So I see him jump out in front of me and of course my kneejerk reaction was to floor it...bad idea lol I got a 2.389 60'...Bad Then I proceeded to miss 2nd gear but quickly found it and then power shifted into 3rd and ended up with a 16.141 @ 86.97 mph. I was expecting mid to low 15's...this sucked.

Then for my second run I'm thinking ya I'll get my 60' foot down and not miss 2nd and I'll be mid 15's....YA SURE. I deep stage this time..accidentally..And redlight. Then I power shift into second and floor it and that's when it all goes wrong. My clutch is GONE. The rpms are just shooting up and the car is going nowhere. I keep letting off and getting on it over and over and it wasn't even helping. I said **** it, and started coasting the last part of the 1/4 to a nice 17.304 @68.01 LOL

So, my car has 90,000 miles and I thought my clutch might be going out. Now I know for sure I need one. It was fun overall though and there were cool ppl and tons of nice cars. Then I left in disgust...BTW, how much is a clutch job for these things?

I think the clutch and pressure plate ran me $300. Installation was painful but free.

At 90k your clutch is likely gone, but as a tip that I alwasy suggest with clutch problems now, check your fluid, if its not clear change it.

I called my local mechanic and he said a clutch install would run me $450-500 labor and materials. Doesn't sound so bad to me.

Would that be a stock replacement clutch though? It may be a good idea to get an aftermarket clutch if you plan on racing more this summer.

Ya I know but I'm broke....Maybe I'll just save up for a spec stage 3 and drive on my stocker for now. It's still driveable.
