• Better than I thought

I finally ran my car yesterday at Great Lakes Dragway. My best run was 15.902 @ 87.38mph. Not bad for stock. My K&N intake comes on wed, and my Flowmaster exhaust comes on saturday. I was thinking of getting 2 spare donut tires, and put them on the front. is this a good idea or not? I am also going to take all the seats out to save some weight. I cant wait to see what she'll run then.

donuts are NOT safe, unless your track really sucks they wont pass them at inspection.

15.9 is what I ran stock 96 A4 w/ 3.08s full interior

Sounds like you're about right on for a stock 3.08 open rear car.

what 60' did you pull? Or just post up the whole timeslip.

i think those mods, a little weight reduction, and a 3.42 LSD would serve you nicely ..donuts are not a good idea because they wont handle well and are not made to withstand speeds that high

Typical donut tires are speed rated at 55 mph?

Track won't let you through tech.... trust me.... I asked years ago

BTW, congrats

Way to go!

I TRIED to take my car to the track this weekend too. On the way there though it started mis-firing like a mofo. Turns out ignition coil for cylinders 2 and 5 was fried. I was able to buy the replacement part, and get it fixed at the track.....just for it to start to rain :(

Oh well, judging by your times, and me having the 3.23 gears and LSD and 5-speed manual I should be around the mid-15's

My advice is to at least leave in the drivers seat. ;)

Take out rear seats, spare tire, jack, rear seatbelts and you should be able to run a little quicker. 15.9 for a stock 3.8l with 3.08 open rear end is about right. I ran anywhere from a 15.71 to a 16.14 with an average 2.41 60'

Now that i think about it the donut tires is a bad idea.
I pulled a 2.433 '60
my goal is to be in high 14's by end of summer. Where can I get a 3.42lsd, and how hard is this to install?

Where can you buy those gears?

Honestly, just get a complete V8 rear.
You would get:
V8 rear sway bar (19 mm vs 17 mm on v6)
LSD
3:23's or 3:42's
Rear disc brakes

I paid $250 for mine from an f body salvage yard.

If you buy gears brand new they are almost $200, LSD can range from cheapie $100 to good one $450.. then install.
