• Hit the track last night...

Cleaned up the car, I had a tick in an accessory so I pulled my pulies and cleaned and returned them, also swapped clutch fluid again since it was cooked

I had a bad omen, battery died the night before, I got a battery before I went to work, installed it after work(my bat was dead again) drove hime cleaned some stuff out and ran the car at the track.

Mods...
-Cutout, on factory exhaust(installed one, no longer run unhooked exhaust)
-Shaved lid, home depot smooth bellows, FRA, no filter(I used to pull the intake, now I just pull the filter)
-No MAF screen
-MSD wires, NGK plugs
-takeoff LSD.
-16X8 firebird 5-stars with 245/45/16 yokohama ES100s at the wear bar(got them off a autcorssing friend, his old stock class racing tires)

I'll add my weight reduction and additions since its popular.

Maybe a 1/8th tank of gas hard to tell with our guages, between 1/4 and empty.

-Weight reduction
jack and spare
Rear seat bottoms(back is in, I took them all out to clean, put the seat back in for autocross, and I kinda like having just the seat back, makes little storage area in the back seat I can keep covered .

-Weight added...
medium-small socket set.
maybe 16 foot, good thick jumper cables

I was planning to do more belt on runs since I wans't confident on how well the new battery was charged off the shelf.

how exactly is it that you run with the belt off?..do you just take the whole serpantine belt off??..i didnt know the car could run like that..im very curious though cuz it seems to give you a good couple tenths

Hmmm, .1 and almost 1.5 mph gain from removing it.... very interesting!

And... for that video... icky launch!!!! you bogged!

As for how it is removed...... you just.... take it off!

Only concern is... you have no p/s, alternator isn't charging battery, a/c won't work and w/p won't turn.

For a quick pass or 2... it should not be a concern.

I usually get more out of it... but I had a new battery, had like less then 20 miles on it. So I think maybe I wasn't getting enough juice to run the ignition on the topend of every gear. I usually see better gains from it.

Main concerns is water temp and alternator. Witht eh car cold I can drive up, make a run no belt, pull back to the lanes and make another run. It was dead at the track so I sat out a run before I pulled the belt. but just watch the temp it jumps fast and rememember the guage may not read the right temp. Also remember you are runing straight form the battery no alternator, but I have done 7 runs in one night without the belt on and pulled good times the whole night off of the battery alone.

I think I drove ~30 miles on my 3.4L just off the battery, no alternator from an autocross.

hmmm intresting. would it be worth wild to go buy a fairly cheep battery and only put it in when your not running a belt, then just recharge it when you get home?

I've thought of just having a friend come with me and jump my car in the staging lanes. Keep it charged(I already have front to back cables)

but whatever, the car usually runs fin just pulling it. Just I was on a battery I off the shelf and in my car for like less then 20 min of driving, I am not confident in how well charged it was.

It will be fine the next time I go out.
