• shift kit + CAI = higher 1/4???

So my first trip to the track with my 01 A4 firebird with B&B triflo exhaust I ran best a 15.139 at 89.3 mph with a 2.17 60'

Since then I've added a B&M shift improver kit and an SLP CAI. I went back to the track last week and my best run was a 15.88 at 85.4 mph with a 2.29 60'...most of my runs were 15.9's with 2.3 60's

I was getting a little bit of wheel spin, but I cannot understand how I lost almost .7 seconds over my first time with more mods. The temp. both times were 55-60, so that wasn't an issue.

My car is running very strong, shifts into each gear very firm and quick, and honestly does seem to pull harder.

But for some reason it is slower now....just wondering if i need to reprogram my computer or something for the added mods....any suggestions would help.

Thanks...and sorry if its a little confusing this is my first post here

if i missed any information you can check out my car at http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/615960
no subs in the car btw either trip

shift KIT or shift IMPROVER?

There are many factors involved.

What was the temp, humid barom psi etc on each day?

Track conditions?

Car temp?

More info would be required to asssist you.

Its a shift improver kit from B&M set on stage 1
http://www.bmracing.com/index.php?id...t=12&subcat=21

all weather conditions were about the same, 55-60 degrees

My car was running at about 190-200 like it normally does

The track seemed fine...i really dont know what else to say about that

the only thing that changed from my first visit to my last visit to the track were the kit,the CAI, new tires(about 3k miles, 245's around instead of 235's) and chrome rims instead of the alloy ones...thats about all i can think of

Those chrome rims will be heavier as will a 245 tire vs a 235 tire. plus there is more drag and friction with a wider tire at the top end of a run.

the wheels will change it a little not tons but a little, the spin and slower 60' will hurt a little too, then the rest could be weather.

How is everything running? Any problems?

i just changed the plugs and wires today, they had alot of built up on them, so maybe they were the problem

besides that everything on the car is good

But yea the new bigger tires with the chrome rims is what is slowing you down some right there. Go back to the stockers and you should be quicker again

After I changed my plugs and wires the car seems to be running alot smoother with better response...

Is it normal for your wires to have burn marks in them after 30k miles? I put some sleeving on them so these ones wouldn't burn the same.

Hopefully this was my problem, so im going back to the track either this Friday or Wednesday, maybe get some good times

Thanks for the help everyone

i wouldnt think you're supposed to have burn marks on them..but if you're drag racing your car you shouldnt put 30K miles on the wires anyways since i would recommend replacing them at least once a year as part of an annual tune up..even more often if spraying..unless i have a problem which requires me to change the wires..i replace mine at the middle and end of the racing season here

They can make a bigger differnece then you think... Mine felt good, never really noticed a misfire or anything, but figured good maintenance and changed them the car felt great after that.

Definitely, 70% of a drag racing run is the 1st 60'

15.1 et is an amazing time for that car with that speed so something seems a little fishy to me there but thats not the point. 60' foot is a HUGE diff on any run and especially with a shift kiit/improver i would be amazed if u aced a launch the first time out.

Why is it amazing? Its on the better end but I ran a 15.2 in my car, paperfilter stock on stock tires. He had exhaust and its possible he has 3.42s. low 15s is not outragious.
