• Turbo "shake down" was just that

I finally got time to test my car with the turbo on.
The track wasn't hooking good for anyone, but I was having a different problem with traction. When I launch the car above 1500 (which is far too low) the rear end would shake violently. Most people there said it was way beyond wheel hop and seemed like something had snapped in the suspension. After investigation everything was fine with the suspension.

I was running 14.3-14.6 and was very disappointed (however launch is everything , especially with a turbo car). I was happy that I beat some mustang GTs and ran within .05 seconds of a 2005 mustang GT. To perhaps salvage the day I adjusted my rear coil overs so the springs sat higher (which I believed would cause them to apply more force to the rear and perhaps keep it situated for a better launch). After making these adjustments I ran and the problem had not changed at all.

I'm wondering what my next step should be and how I should adjust my suspension to give me a better launch. I have SA Koni's all around and a GC Coil-Over kit. I was wondering if a torque arm and LCAs would help out. At this point I'd be willing to try anything. I didn't know if I should make the shocks stiffer or less stiff to eliminate wheel hop.

Any suggestions would be more than welcome.

Post you slip from your best run. I would like to see your 60' and your trap speed. Your trap will be a great indication of what is possible and how much power you are making.

wheel hop is hard to drive through. get that suspension up to par and you will be alright.
post up your timeslip so we can see everything that the car was doing. the turbo power from the turbo will show in your trap speed even if teh ET is way off.

For the best trap speed.

If you need any more info I'll get you it ASAP.
I hoping to go to summit and pick up a torque arm and LCAs and install them soon after. Does anyone have any advice as to how I should have my shock rebound and springs sets? I wasn't sure if stiffer would be good or not in this situation and exactly how the springs influence the launch. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

it is all about teh first 60ft. those short times are horrible. with a trap speed above 95mph you should be able to cut a 60ft in the mid to low 1.9's at least. with the right set up a high 1.8 is perfectly reasonable.
get yourself a good torque arm, some tubular control arms, control arm relo brackets and go try again.
a small set of drag radials would also be a big help. no need to go nuts, a 245/255 for a 16inch rim or a 235 for a 15inch rim would get teh job done.
i also don't see any mention of tuning on your car domain page. i would suggest having some custom tunign done asap to get the full potential out of that engine combo.
go to www.njfboa.org and look for foff667. he is a really good tuner, actually he has done tuning for several members of this board.
i would also think the car wants more gear. 4.10's are a great gear set for a street/strip combo.

Im going to say your best run with the 2.199 60 is not terrible. You have a handling suspension on street tires. I think your MPH is hurting bad for a turbo car.

What psi is your turbo running?

I would listen to NJSPDER to for suspension.

I am not a turbo guru but your mph is a little off for what I would expect from a turbo car... what kind of altitude are you racing at?

You can work on the 60' some with your car i see a 2.0s to maybe 1.9s which would bring you in the high 13s... so you are making alot of power in the 1/8th running a 9.3 with a 2.2. 60'

Are you having any problems at the top end of the track I have seen a turboed v6 run into troubles at teh top end of the track while running boost.

Does anyone else think that 78 in the 1/8 then 93 in the quarter seems odd. I was seeing around 74 in the 1/8 and 94 in the quarter running 14.3's. Seems like its losing a little on the top end. Torque arm, lca's and subframe connectors will definetly help the launch.

I was thinking the same... when in bad weather and I pull 93ish I don't do that well in the 1/8th and I cut better 60' It looks like topend its messing up. I have seen shane run into a few problems up top in the 1/4 on some of his not so good runs. maybe its a fuel/tuning issue.

My car makes over 400 tq at 3300 rpms and I have no problems launching at all. My suspension mods are Spohn LCAs with relocation brackets, a Spohn panhard bar and a set of Spohn subframe connectors. The LCAs are the best mod I've ever done to the car, makes it hook amazingly better.
