• Slip analysis!

Okay, I'm trying to figure out where I stand, so here are a few of my slips (no, not the camaro, the corvette).

My ET is lower in some, and my MPH is higher in a slow run it is in my fastest run. Any advice, etc?

(the 14s runs were @ 975ft @ 95 degrees/50% humidity - tire pressure 40psi - I know, waaaaay too high, but I wanted to try it anyway)

rt 1.0824
60ft 2.3095
1/8 9.2302@79.95mph
1/4 14.1345@101.37mph

I did two runs @ 14.13@101mph

This next run was @ the same elevation @ 80 degrees/45% humidity - tire pressure - 32psi. Different track, looked like the same tree.

rt .052 (wtf?)
60ft 2.080
1/8 9.045@79.19mph
1/4 13.994@98.25mph

My mods are listed in my signature. I did both of these runs in street trim (except tire pressure) with my hard as a rock non sticky tires. What do you guys think is possible with this car (and say, stickier tires), and what do you think I should do differently.

Note: ASR was ON during all runs. Without ASR the car burns out into second. A good run without ASR is about a 15.2.

I would say with sticky tires, you would be able to get 60's in the 1.8s. With that and a 100+ mph, you're looking at 13.30s. You would also be able to turn the asr off with the drag radials, since you prob won't have as many issues with wheelspin. Let us know how it turns out.

I think the problem is the 60 ft times. Turn the ASR off and just practice more.

ASR off with the current tires is a no go. It will not be faster. It just makes a lot of white smoke. I know I need different tires for racing and that is what I will get next.

Practice... and learn to drive it.

LT1's are TQ monster's down low.... it is called throttle modulation ;)

Rear tire psi around 28.
Full tank of gas.
Front tire psi around 50.

I say full tank of gas..... so you can have most potential traction... and practice at those launches and get those 60's down.

ASR should be off! ;)

exactly... and generally whenever you spin the launch your mph will read higher down the track, but since the 60' sucked your ET will be higher.

Turn off ASR and learn to practice. YOu may have to look into a different tire combo, if I understand right, yu might have some low profile tires in the rear which are a little harder to launch.

check out what the vette guys reccomend.

lol i trap 105 and i run a 2.6 and 2.9 60' i dont hook at all. so i baby it till ig et passed the 60ft mark and into the 4 grand mark in first gear then i get on it.
when i hook my MPH is higher down the track but i odnt hook in first second or third gear, if i gun it in first i can hook but once hit 3500 ill break loose again as the torque curve starts to climb steeply. also get a dif torque converter.
it makes a big difference thats my next mod after my rear end swap.

I know EXACTLY what your going through....

But you can do better....There was a guy here in a stock 96 a4 who clicked a 13.9 at 100....And my track is slow....Z06's only run 12.9 here...

NEways....

-FULL TANK OF GAS

-ASR OFF

- PUT HER IN 3 NOT D

-FRONTS AT 35

-REARS AT 25

-let the engine temp kool to 190 or better for each run

-LAUNCH OFF IDLE....SLOWLY PUT THE PEDAL DOWN FROM IDLE ON THE THIRD YELLOW AND WALK INTO IT...

When my vette was stock I could just launch from 1000 rpms and get a 2.1-2.2 every time....

But after a little more power is added you HAVE TO LAUNCH OFF IDLE TO EVEN HAVE A CHANCE..

The chance of you hitting a 1.8 is slim to none...On street tires

Just keep aiming for those 2.0's.....But make sure the
engine is nice and kool....

With a 2.0 and a kool engine you should trapp a solid 99-101 mph wich is good for a 13.6-13.7 on street tires and Id say 13.2-13.4 on some good DR's...

I once hit a 13.5 at 101.8 mph in the stock 2.73 a4 vette on street tires so anything is possible...

I'll try it that way. I'm also going to take drag radials with me to the track and try it with different tires. My real goal is a bolt on 12, but that is rather difficult as I have exhausted most bolts ons. Once I get the x pipe in, I think I'll put some 1.6 RRs (and stuff necessary for them).

As I cannot afford to take my heads off and port them properly, would porting my intake manifold yield much with stock heads? Would it even be worth my time?

A 2.1 - 2.2 60ft time in a vette is absolutely pathetic. ^^^^^^^^^^ I get consistant 2.3's in my slow azzzz car with 3.08's lol

As for air pressure, let ur backs down to the low 20's, and pump your fronts to at least 45. It wont hurt to go up and down the track a few times with them that high, just remember to let it back down.

it is easier to get better 60ft times in a slower car. higher powered cars can pull better time, but they all have trouble getting traction with all that power.

how can you pull a good 60ft if your spinning the whole way? you cant.

try laying tire 60ft in your car, you cant(without the brake).

sounds like a good start... AS for rear tire pressure watch lowering them too low. you have lower profile tires that are wide, if you lower them to low the inside of the tire will bow in and hurt your traction.

Just keep practicing...

You should be ok with the rear tires down to 25 or 26 lbs, but definetly no lower than that. The fronts should be way over 35....more like 50. The more air thats in them, the less rolling resistance they have, the easier it is for your car to roll out of the beams.

Remember to set your pressures back to normal before you head home for the night....

does the full tank of gas recommendation go for F-body as well?

Also, I have 18" rims, 235/40/18 tires - recommended air pressure for drag racing on them?
