  • Ugly Track Times?

    Hey guys went to the track last night here in NJ. Im dissapointed with what my car ran.

    Back in March my car trapped at 89mph w/ only a cat-back and i spun off the line. Thats also letting my car sit and cool for an hour before I ran it. Prolly ran it at 170-180*.

    60'= 2.93
    1/4= 16.38
    mph= 89.1

    Last night w/ cat-back and CAI:

    1st run
    60'= 2.4
    1/4= 16.33
    mph= 84.75

    2nd run
    60'= 2.5
    1/4= 16.39
    mph= 84.45

    Now it was about 93+ degrees outside and like 100% humidity. Car ran at 210*, possibly even hotter going through the burnout box.. You think the car ran so slow cause of the heat? thanks

    Heat and humidity are HUGE factors that slow you down so yes that is probably your problem.

    Also do you have an open 3.08 rear gear?

    need to work on your 60' times and those times will drop a lot!

      Hmm. I have no idea what gear ratio I have in the car. I slammed into a curb about a year and half ago and replaced it with a junk yard rear from a 97 camaro. I can spin one tire holding the brake and hitting the gas. I can spin both when they are wet.

      My speedo is also off 5mph since the replacement. When it says im going 60, Im really going 55. lol

        The heat was a killer last night. I was there with a friend who ran his T/A for the first time. I think he actually ran you on one of your runs. Anyway his best was a 14.1 and he should be about 3 tenths quicker than that. You'll go much faster in the fall.

          I feel your pain about ugly track times. I have only been to the track twice (Infineon Raceway) and ran 2 times each time. My best run was a 16.1 @ 87 mph this past spring with ideal weather with a CAI and cat-back.....I was expecting low FIFTEENS!!! not 16's!!??! I was seriously disappointed, although I did miss second gear on that run. I also have a stock clutch with 94 k miles on it as well as an open diffy... The big thing for me is the 60 foot, my best of those 4 runs was a 2.4....Pretty ****ty...I either spin too much or bog. Can't hook for the life of me...

            Yeah your friend with the M6 hard top red T/A? Yup that was me in the green bird lol. Yeah im going to try and go next week later in the evening when it cools down a little.

            Ill get there and let the car sit for a while before I get in line. Its not the cleanest bird but i do enjoy it and other f-bodies and I like going to the track every now and then. I was just hoping I would hit a 15 this year since I put in the intake and exhaust. Ill be happy with even with a 15.999 lol

              isnt atco open almost up until the new year? dude just wait until it cools down, not cools down to the high 80's lol...I wont say its a waste of money but its damn close going when its this hot. Wait till late sept/oct and hit the track...you should be able to get your 15 then with little problem.

                your 60' is your problem there...that was easily a mid to high 15 second run...what did u spin through 1st gear completely?

                  again a combination of 60' times & missing a gear...just remember for every tenth you cut off in the 60' its 2 tenths at the end of the1/4 mile...get from 2.4's to 2.2's and you'll cut off 4 tenths pretty easily.

                    I was there and saw you run too. For the cost to race at Atco it doesn't hurt to go during the summer just for the launching practice....

                      Ya, I think I need a new clutch really. It's pretty worn out. It's ok for daily driving, bu once I try to launch hard it's crap. I've also had an exhaust rattle for years and I'm starting to think my cat may be a bit clogged, as my top end is pretty ****ty and not what it used to be.

                            I usually launch the car between 1,800-2,200 I wanna say...anything above that it feels like my tires are gonna start spinning at the line.

                            With a stock stall what do you guys think I can get away with? Should I try brining the RPM up to 2,500-3,000 and try launching the car?

                            I also have been thinking about buying some 3.42's w/ lsd off of someone in the for sale section. Would Bigger gears make a considerable difference? thanks

                              i dont think the stock stall will stall to 2500-3000...but if it can more power to ya... a large converter 3600+ rpm stall + sticky tires will net you the biggest et improvements other then going forced induction.
