  • Blew head gasket on 150 shot

so i was out today running the 150 shot..giving it a bit more fuel..the first run went ok..got a 13.5@100 ..then the second run..i didnt feel anything..but i saw the engine light come on..after that the car was smoking a bit and riding pretty rough..i got a code 306 for a cylider 6 misfire..so im sure i did something there..and it was a white smoke coming from the tail pipes..basically telling me i blew the head gasket..i sure am glad i have that warranty..1 grand to drop in a whole new block

Spraying at large of shots as you have been without logging I'm not surprised!

Back down the shot, log it, make sure you are tuned right!

I knew it would happen sooner or later. I am just glad it wasn't your pistons.
This time, you might want to use the MLS head gaskets to handle the higher combustion pressures.

i log every time out now..i have these runs logged too..if anything it looked better the second run (when i blew the gasket)..for some reason the MAF and injectors were a little more stable..i'll definitely check into the MLS gaskets!

Do you have a copy you could post of the log when it blew? Would be interesting to see.

Thats good that you have a habit of logging now, but it may have had nothing to do with these runs, the damage may have already been done some time ago and it was just waiting to happen.

Nothing has to be wrong with your a/f or timing to blow a head gasket. Some gaskets just can't hold the pressure of almost double the power the were intended for (almost double the cyl. pressure.)

running lean while spraying will cause high heat and detenation. Increased pressure WILL blow a head gasket.

His engine was just recently completely redone.

Okay...so you're running a ridiculous shot of nitrous to run high 12's, low-mid 13's at a horrendous trap speed. Did it ever occur to you that it may NOT in fact be that you're not running enough nitrous, but that something else isn't right? Seriously. a 150 shot should have you in the low 12's, if not broken down on the track (oh...wait).

As for your warranty...honestly, I hope they find that your motor was abused. Because in fact, it was.

umm..i dont care what they find..its probably just a head gasket and wont be sent to them anyway..i got the same results John D. did from this shot except with more weight, bigger rims, etc (2.2 seconds)..and from what i understand his car was pretty well tuned..also..i dont ever recall complaining once in this whole thread..but..yeah..whatever you say man
(and although i dont drive the car..it is not broken down ;) )

well.....it wasnt like he wasnt warned........numerous times about something happening.

Sucks though, I hate to hear about anybody's car being down.

Good luck and hopefully lessons learned....
