  • 15.9..first time....96 degrees

I just raced at the track for the first time. I got a 15.9 but I have no idea what im doing (its an automatic) If you guys launch in ure automatics, what have you found to be the best way. Ive been told 2000rpms brake torque then leave it in D, not OD.

Any other tricks, my dad drove my car and got a 15.4 when it was 62 out, hes maybe 10lbs lighter than me, I dunno what else I can do. I have a KN Air Charger and a Flowmaster duel exhaust.

It was very hot today, bout 96....

P.S. I beat my friend GrandAm GT, but only by a bit. His has the same upgrades.

Need to see the whole slip, but it's probably the 60'. Just need to go more to get some practice. Work on finding what launch works best on your car and cut your 60' time down.

Yeah, post us up the slip if you can, and the heat is a killer with these cars. Try running it on a day closer to 70 Degrees and you'll see a difference.

Heat/Humidity is a real killer for performance.

          GRRR...

There is no performance difference between being in D or OD. Being in OD (D with a square around it in Camaro's) just allows the tranny to shift into OD when apppropriate. WOT going down a drag strip isn't the appropriate time so the computer won't shift into it.

Holding your brake with your left foot is what most everyone with an automatic does. I don't think you can go to 2000 rpm on the stock torque convertor though. I go to about 1500 rpm.

...oh I guess you don't know that people round here will call you a Liar if you dont have proof of your track times. So if you feel that people here are people-worth-proving anything too, then you might want to start scanning. If your like me, and could care less about proving sh/t to anyone worth anything, then dont worry bout posting your slip.
Your time 15.9 is not bad. concidering its your first time. That means for sure it can be improved. Sounds like there's not much more you need to do but work on your launching and get into throwing some-more mods into your ride.
The rest will come to you naturally and of course you'll get advise and junk. Just remember -"the race is usually won Off-the-line, rather than at the 1/4mi. mark"
