• LS1 VS L36

If I were to put a 100 shot of nitrous on my l36 I would have 300 at the motor compared to the 305 of the LS1 but I would have both a lighter car and motor with 3.42 gears were the trans am doesnt have that gearing (not the one I was looking at any way) would I stand a chance in a race?? Im new and retarded to this stuff, sorry! Be gentle
Why hop up a V6, cuz $724 a month for insurance is a little steep.

What did your car run stock? Have you taken it to a track? It's easier to estimate ET's when you have something to base it them from. Plus, we need more info on the way your car is setup. Do you have any other mods?

I have k and n aircharger, flowmaster catback, hypertech pp, and 180* thermo. But regardless of all that if the car were just a stock bird with the y87 package. How would it do?? Im looking for any opinions.

It's not as easy as you're thinking. You can't just throw nitrous at a car and expect it to run with an LS1 car. Have you even been to a track yet?

No, theres not one near by. I really dont plan on running with ls1's. I was just trying to figure out how close it would be. weather or not I would still get blown out of the water or if I would just get a nice little spanking

I figure if they have an LS1 camaro or bird they probably have just as many mods as us, and with half the money we put into our cars their cars would be haulin major.

well, a 100 shot is measured by wheel horsepower.
based on your mods, you'd probably put down 270-280 with a 100 shot of juice.

However, most LS1's dyno ~300 to the wheels, some have dyno'd as high as 320 at the wheels STOCK (01's and 02's). a nitroused V6 doesn't make the torque of an LS1 either.

How do the LS1's dyno 300-320 at the wheels if they only have 305 @ the motor. Maybe the SS or the WS6's but I dont think the other ones would.

they're underrated. the vette is their flagship, and they dont want the bargin buy camaro looking like it could keep up when someone's willing to drop nearly twice as much on a corvette. (of course there are plenty of other differences between the two, but you get the idea).

plus, your 305hp quote is wrong, the Z28/TA runs 320 at the motor and the SS/WS6 is rated at 325. Loochy88 is correct though, they are underrated to make the corvette seems more special having more power out of the same motor setup

i hope ur not running nitrous with the hpp3 on? says somthin on the box that it could cause some kind of major problem. but anyways, if the trans am is stock and u got that ****, just make sure u get off the line good and u should have him, only if u get the jump on him, other then that, he should still rip ur *** open IF he knows how to drive that bad boy

OOO and i also have a 99 vette, rips ls1 camaros and trans ams like they werent moving, it defenatly has more power and is much lighter, i wouldnt talk about a car unless ive owned one first, i can take the vette off the line, but around 65 he passes me like im stoped. the gearing in the vette (3.42) is horrible, i wanna get 3.90's in it and im tryin to get some dynatech header setup on it, **** is hella expensive....

Yeah a nitrous v6 doesn't make the torque of an LS1, it makes loads more. Your talking close to 450lb/ft on a 100shot. even a modded LS1 can't touch that.

Ive never seen a dyno printout of a nitrous v6. That 450lb/ft would be nice. Also I know enough to have the timing advanced while running n20, due to the risk of detonation. Im looking at the hp numbers at msn.com it shows for fourth gens they had 305 and 310 horsepower thats why I wrote that. check it out.

Im not trying to take away from a Z28 what so ever, in fact I had one for four days untill the insurance quote came. Im just trying to figure out what I can do since I cant have the ls1 I have to settle for an alternative.
