• My first 1/4 mile!

I fianlly did my first 1/4 mile last night. I was at the trac to compete in a DB drag SPL contest (Loudest stereo) and was talked into runing down the track.

I must say my time was embarrising to say the least as well as my reaction time.

R/T.....595
60'.....2.729
330'....7.570
1/8.....11.532
1000'...14.899
1/4.....17.719
MPH.....79.50

This is however in an almost completely stock 99 convertable, with a 145 lb. speakerbox in the back seat, 2 extra batteries, 50 lbs of sound deading material and my girlfriend riding with me (110 lbs ) It was fun though and I may be going back again soon

you mph is low... but then again you are on 18s, have a system and are a convertable.

but damn... that is one horrible 60'. Get that 2.7 to a 2.1, and you should be in the 16s. Possibly mid 16s

Although I'm sure if you took out the stereo equipment you would've run a tenth or 2 quicker, the 2 reasons you ran what you did are:
a) the 18 in rims
b)your launch. A 2.7 60' shows you need practice launching. With a little pracitce and a couple more outings to the track, you'll see your et's drop big time. Glad you had fun, drag racing is awesome!

wow I think my buick couldve given you a beating lol...but you gotta figure your car probably weighs over 4000lbs with an inexperienced driver that combination is never gonna get great results...also depending on how they time the reaction it actually might not be bad...some track it as .000 being perfect others are .500.

i feel for you here. my system weighs about 145 not including deadening mat, wires, and etc. but then again, i ran a 15.8 on my first time to the track. im going to plan on running again once i take it all out and hope i can get a lil better of a drop. i am on 17s though. *shrug* it could have been worse!

I'll probably go back again soon to see if I can perform a little better. Since my speakerbox is now in the back seat ill be taking the sound deadning out of the trunk, and once my H/O alternator comes i wont need 3 batteries. when I bought this car i had no desire to race or put in an audio system. If that was the case i would have bought a v8 and a hard top....lol but now i realize how fun both are im gonna continue upgrading. the only problem is: Everything i do with the audio system handicaps the 1/4 mile times :( .

Comments.

100 pounds of static weight slowes you down .1 in the 1/4.
rotational mass will KILL your times. Probably at least .1 but maybe .2
every .1 off your 60 gets you .15 off your ET.

Lets do some math.

Drop 400 pounds from the car. 17.71 now is a 17.31
Put on stock wheels (lets figure it cost you .2) 17.31 now is 17.11
run a 2.1 60 foot. 17.11 now is 16.15.

tons-0-room for improvment with your current set up.

Between removing the body kit, wheels, sound equip, GF, spare and jack ect ect ect you could gain A LOT. no doubt that you have at least 400 pounds that could be removed. Thats .4 right there

I run high 15's in my convertible, on 18" and 2x JL w6v2's molded in fiberglass in my back seat, yellow top battery, 0 guage wire and 3 amplifiers. I do remove my spare and jack and passenger seat though. But, I may have more mods then the above 'Vert. I hit 140's in SPL competitions.

For every 10 lbs. you can remove, you gain 1 hp. And about every 10 hp you gain .1 /// if you go by the 100lb rule.

just remember, your curb weight is more than a stock coupe maro or bird

with a 2.7 -- were you spinning at the line like crazy?
