Got some track times for the stock 5spd bird ;) My first time out to the track, so prepare to be unimpressed lol

My best ET:
RT .650
60' 2.573
330 7.095
1/8 10.854
mph 65.40
1000 14.058
1/4 16.724
mph 84.80

Best R/T:
RT .006
60' 2.484
330 7.121
1/8 11.030
mph 61.78
1000 14.342
1/4 17.058
mph 83.27

I made 5 passes total. First slip was my third run and second slip was my 2nd to last.

I think my first 3 runs I improved well.. 17.6, 17.0 then a 16.7
Then I stopped for awhile and made another 2 runs, got my .006 rt but a 17.0 and a 17.2

The last 3 runs or so I spun a little off the line, so I dont know how that might have affected it, and 2 or 3 of em I chirped going into 2nd too lol.

The second to last run (best rt) was up against my buddy in a 2002 CE T/A (stock, we both pulled our filters out). We pulled even off the line for a bit and he left me and did a 14.6. His best was a 14.14, he was not hooking up lastnight :(

Considering I'm a newbie, what do you guys think I can improve on as a driver? Modding the car is out since I'm going to be selling it for a T/A sometime. I know my launches can improve. Any tips from the pros? Thanks! :D

Practice is all you need. The 60' is killing you. Trap speeds suck, but that could be from the bad launch. Remember that RT doesn't effect your time. All you need to do is get more practice on the launch and get the 60' time down towards 2.1-2.2.

Yeah, I knew the RT doesnt affect it, but I thought I would post it up since it was a good RT.

For a stock bird. What should I be launching at? Should I drop it or take it a little more easy?

You'll want to slip it out pretty quick. Maybe somewhere around 2500-3000, but it all depends on the conditions and your tires.

Air your fronts up 45 or so, drop your rears to about 25.

Warm the tires up a little to get all the dirt off them.

Know what's weird? I got the oil changed last morning and they said they put the tires to 32. I went to let air out on the 3rd run and they were already down to 24?!?

I went around the water but I guess I should have warmed them up a little

Always go around the water box on street tires. You don't really need to warm the tires up, just spin 'em over a couple times to clean them off.

The trap sucks because Tucson's weather sucks for racing. Physically 3300ft above sea level, hot as crap, and humid for parts of the year. Get used to that.

The 60' is killing you. A 2.1 on stock street type tires is not out of reach by any means.

I hit 15.2 at 89 on a 2.1 60' NA last summer.

It was actually kind of cold lastnight. Dipping into the 60's I think.

I definately want to work on launches, but my point wasn't to be racing this car. I guess I just wanted to see what it was like and get some practice so I can be good when I find the LS1 I want.

I can't risk breaking this car with hard launches, though. Don't know if I will take it to the track again before getting my LS1.

imo... keep the rears at around 32 psi...

and work on the launch... I go about 3000-3500 working the clutch a little, but just practice till what feels righ for your car.

BTW, the track prep was pretty bad even for Tucson Sat night.

A few of the autocrossing Z06b guys came out for some runs. Keith (in the maroon one with black stripes) was running on his Victoracers and couldn't come close to his 60' (and ET) that he did on street tires he had on the first time he came out.

That's what I thought. csxfbird (02 CE TA) was running mid to low 14s all night too.

Carlos, the guy in the evo was pretty upset about his times as well.

I ran a supra that did 13.6 then csxfbird ran it and did another 14 and beat her.

What do you think I could have been running on a better night? Maybe not 15's yet but it would have been nice to be deeper in the 16s.
