  • Finally got some times

I finally went to the track and got some times. This was my first time and I would do things differently next time I go, but I just wanted to see how the whole track thing works. First run, hooked up decent, probably under powered the launch because I didn't want to spin. The 2nd run I over powered the launch, spun, rolled off the throttle too much, it upshifted, got rolling, and floored it going 30mph(making it down shift again) and took off from there. Here is my car and results.

    Stock 98 Camaro hardtop
    3.8L
    Auto-3.08 Open
Street tires at 44PSI ( I know... way too high)

Kept in the tire/jack and my auto emergency kit/small tool kit (maybe ways 10-20 lb total) and took out the sub.

    1st run 2nd run
    RT .083 -.073
    60' 2.65 3.010
    330' 7.119 7.661
    1/8 10.781 @67.67MPH 11.346 @67.68
    1000' 13.911 14.483
    1/4 16.556 @ 84.69 17.172 @ 83.36

I wasn't too impressed. What do yall think?

wow those 60s are terrible. cut those 60s down and the times will look alot better. bring that tire pressure down to about 27psi or so, work on the launch.

You knocked .4 tenths off you 60' between 1st and 2nd run and your result was .6 tenths faster times.. knock that 60' down to a 2.0 and you will be running mid 15's.. Good luck..

Yea, it's all about the first 60'. If you don't get off of the line well, you won't get a good ET.

Next time drop the rear tires down to about 30 psi, and experiment from there. Don't drop the street tires below 25-26 psi. Air the fronts up to 50-60 psi to help your rollout. Don't forget to air them down before you leave.

A 2.2 60 foot would be great with your setup.

Besides my 60', do you guys think my other times were alright for what I have? It's an older engine/tranny with some miles on it.

don't hope for anything better than 2.2 with 3.08s. If you get that low you'll be in the high-15s, which is good for a 3.08 setup.

I think he could see a 2.3-2.4 with 3.08's. Thats a terrible 60' time. That will help alot.

My car always ran 2.2's with stock 3.42s and LSD on street tires with a cam in the car. Could have dropped some more if I'd removed the front sway.
