• New 3.4 record. :D

Well guys, it was a good and a bad night at the track. Goods, I ran good, good weather. Bads, my rim is stuck on my car. :( lol And I only got in 2 runs. I am for sure I would have hit a 14.9 if I could have gotten in some more seat time. I weighed in at 3185 w/o driver. Not too bad. So heres my prep, mods as listed here MT DR's 255/50/16 on snowflakes and ZR1's up front, no front sway, no seats but driver, no jack/spare, and chilly weather.

Run1:

I was borrowing my friend's MT DR's from him, and so they werent mine, and I was being respectful and not burning out on them. But I used the psi they came with. So it was 18 psi rear and 32 psi fronts. I just tried to clean them off a little. Then I got a pretty good launch, I launched at about 4200rpm, and it actually kinda bogged a little. Also, what was kinda a factor, was that 3.4's have no top end, so I can go right at about 90mph in 3rd gear, so this run, I shifted to fourth probably like 50-60ft before the end, and that might have hurt me. I dont know.

60' 2.162
330' 6.247
1/8 9.698
1/8 mph 71.81
1000' 12.669
1/4 15.190
mph 89.07

Run 2:

The only things I changed the second run, was I went up to 24psi in the rears, kept the fronts the same, dropped a bag of ice on the intake, and I launched at 5K to try to get a good launch. Well the 5K launch with those beefy things on back, didnt like the stock clutch, and it slipped some on the launch, but was fine the rest of the way. Also, I didnt go into 4th this time. I kept it in 3rd and I think went like 100rpm into the redline. lol

60' 2.25
330' 6.283
1/8 9.679
1/8 mph 72.94
1000' 12.602
1/4 15.092
mph 90.77

I know if I was to get another 2 runs, I would have gotten the launch down and pulled a 14.99+. Not only was this my first run on DR's, it was my first 1/4 run with the 'maro period. So I am really excited, and look forward to bringing it down even more. I dont have a scanner, but I will scan the runs when I can find one. Thanks guys, later. ;)

Congrats, that pretty good. Looks like you've got plenty of room for improvements.

Do you think it was the Budweiser mod that did the trick or what?

Awesome runs...

so mods are...

-Cam
-3.42/LSD
-Drag radials
-Homemade intake(I think homemade intakes are what 3.4Ls need )
-Pulleys
-header + 3 in exhaust

but you definitely need to work on the 60ft... imo, just throw some salad shooters, snowflakes, or firebird 5-stars on all 4 corners and practice launching, you should be able to get a 2.1, to a 2.0 without the need off a race rubber. Should put you in the 14s.

The cam and full exhaust must really help out on the topend of the 3.4L? I always went into 4th, I shifted before 5grand, seemed the more I rode the car out it woudl run out of steam, and I woudl run slower, I generally ran faster keeping towards the midrange of the car.

btw noticing you said stock suspension(minus your front bar, on the other site) Look into picking up a 19mm and see if it helps out on your launch a little. I always felt(or thought I felt) a better feel with a thicker rear sway)

and a stocker z28 bar can be had for like $10 probably in texas.

Thanks man. Well, ok I will specify. Since I have that raer off a 94 T/A, it came with that stock sway, which was a 19mm. But anyways, yeah, mine still runs out of steam, but mine runs out of steam about 5200rpm, and even our dash says it will go to 5500. I am just like you, I usually shift at 5200rpm or maybe a little earlier. I know if I get a clutch and some 4.10's and maybe a couple of suspension peices, maybe I could have 1.9's. I dont know, also some more hp would help. And, that will come along in time.

I think I ran first out to about 5200, then shifted the rest around 5k, well just below for tach lag.

thing that I have seen with 3.4Ls that worry me about getting to crazy with internal mods... Is the fact that their is near 0 tuning ability.

With this it makes hard to modify the main motor a ton.

IMO, I would focus on drivetrain/suspension because in the end if you swap a new motor in you can still use your mods or if you decide to sell it all off, more people are willing to buy it since it will fit v8s and v6s.

just imo, with working on a budget like most of us are since we have v6s

Yep, but I have no intentions of getting rid of this motor. I know a coupl eof tuning options, and I will use them, as well as some internal and external engine mods with this. But Im just talking out my butt, cause this stuffs expensive and "never been done" so it will be in the far future.

true I know there are options anything and everything can be done but sometimes the cost isn't worth it.
